My dad passed away a month ago and although I go to the gym 4 days a week, I find that my legs ache and that?

I feel unable to complete any cardio activity without feeling winded and uncomfortable. Some people tell me it's because I'm just still shocked by my father's death and my body cannot deal with it. (I also lost my mother 4 yrs ago). My blood pressure is fine and I am in good health - or so I thought. I take 60 mg. of Prozac for chronic fatigue syndrome for 10 years due to the mono virus - otherwise known as Epstein-Barr Syndrome. Dr's are of no help and without my dad, I feel totally lost. Does anyone have any words of advice for me?

Im sorry for your loss. Your body is going through some stresses that use more energy and are less efficient. When your body is stressed out it to this degree the emotional toll weighs down on your body and it makes it difficult to concentrate. I cant comment about the medication and how it may or may not be affecting you because I am anti-medication and have no knowledge of how prozac affects the body.

What you should probably do is take a break from the typical workouts you do and just do a lot more of easy things. Just get your body back into a routine. If that is still complicated your body might be begging for a break to regather and compose itself. Dont rush yourself back into routine after events such as this. Grief can be a very heavy weight that lingers and you should find someone to help you alleviate that weight. Its tough but being mentally strong is what helps you be physically strong in the end.

Good luck and keep your chin up.

Consider that the loss of your father and your mental state are the real problem...and I think you already know that.

Also consider that Chronic Fatigue syndrome is a poorly understood diagnosis...basically they hadn't found anything else wrong but you were physically and mentally tired so the labeled you CFS. and that after the 1990's Epstein-barr hasn't been considered a great explanation of CFS symptoms.

Try being seen by new medical doctors and psychiatric professionals and come up with a new plan. Prozac is a medication primarily for depression and several new drugs exist that might work better.
