Why do the Americans hate the french?
I am a french immigrant living in America, and I am sick of all the disrespect my home country recieves. Why do many Americans dislike us?
The french really do like the Americans, but the Americans seem to dislike us. Why?
Recently many conservative media personalities and politicians have made deliberate efforts to exacerbate the anti-French sentiment. So my theory is that you expect people to react against you as you are doing against them. We hadn't any "anti-american" campain in the French press, that's why French are not hating the American people.
What is true on the other hand, is that French (like other European nations, and maybe less than some other European nations) doesn't like at all the actual American Goberment.
We are a country of well cultured people who like Americans.
Most of the time you guys have a very low opinion about French people, and what is interesting and reassures me, is that your points of view don't correspond to any real fact.
Saying that French people smell, eat frogs, horses... I have hardly ever met some people like that in country.
I confess I had frog legs once, it is very tasty you know?
But I understand if you prefer your delicious very elaborated fatty hamburgers (yummy!!) That makes you the fatest population on Earth, and this is one more prize you can be proud of.
I understand that most Americans are good - but I have met many who have been very disrespectful of me and other french people.
For those of you who believe the french are cowards, did you know that without the French resistance in WWII your invasion would have failed, and you may even have lost the war?!!?
Trust me, most french hat the American goberment, but not the Americans people.

It's just stereotypes on both sides, a lot of Americans are probable french and don't know it. They are our allies and brothers just as the people of the UK are.

I don't. My ancestors were French.
Some Americans think the French are weak, yadda yadda. Personally, I don't get why they care, nor where they get that ridiculous idea from. Also, I generally don't harbor any dislike for someone unless they do something to me personally--and even then, it's only one person, not a whole country.
But, I've heard quite a bit about the French not liking Americans as well. No country is completely free of the people who will stereotype other countries.

Now, are you not just doing the same thing you were just criticizing us for?

Where are you staying in the US that the people there hate you? Most Americans don't hate anyone, most of what you hear in that regard is just media hype for a slow news day. Conservatives love to stir things up for some reason. In many larger cities such as New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles it is easy to buy french newspapers, foods, etc....
If someone has been mean to you, please don't take it to heart - that person is not a typical American. We have our share of insular idiots who dislike everyone, same as any country. Some people are just like that.
Many of us don't care for the current government either - last election pretty much divided the country in 2.
Besides, without the French, we would still be an English colony. I hope your stay in the US improves!
And please stop with the fat thing - if you are in a small town in a cold climate in the US there may be some heavy people, but go to a large city = thin people. Just as people outside of the metropolitan areas of France might be a bit heavier. You are sterotyping without facts - the same thing that you are complaining about.

I was born in America and by that am an American citizen, however, I have many problems with the american government also. I just got back from visiting Montreal, which is not Franch but has a very french culture. I think the french are cool, chic, business savy, beautiful people who are very well rounded when it comes to cultural acceptance. The US still has a lot of growing up to do in this area. Viva la Franch :)

Hmm, good question.
Personally, I love France and I'm currently learning French!
I think people somehow get the notion that all French people are stuck-up, haughty people. I live in America, and I have noticed this "anti-French sentiment." However, I think many don't think badly of the French. It's just that the French are often depicted as snobby people in stories, etc.
Of course, I don't agree, but that seems to be one of the widespread reasons that cause people to dislike France.
I guess most ethnicities are labeled as one thing or another.

I like French people. As a matter of fact I was in Paris the day the Iraq war started and although there were alot of protest, I didn't encounter any problems and found the French people to be just about like anyone else. What I can't stand is the people from Mexico and Central America. They are the ones that really hate Americans and white people.

Sounds like you have reflected your negativity into your life. You must have allowed circumstance to deceive you. Americans are jerks everywhere you go, and I am American! No, I really don't mean that! There are your negative and positives in all societies.
I understand your reasoning. Try your best to not allow deragatory remarks change WHO YOU ARE! If those who have remarked so crudely actually changes the way in which you view our society then do something. Contact their offices and speak of your disapproval.
I am not happy about the direction of our government either. I do get in touch with politicians and state representatives when necessary.
I urge you to speak out. It is grand that you care to share your views.
I wish no wrong doing to anyone of any culture, race, creed or nation. I do not believe that most Americans disrespect nor mean any disrespect to the Frenchman.
Hope that your feedback will help to change your out look!
