My laptop stops responding a couple of minutes after I turn it on...?
It's weird because the mouse keeps working and I can still minimize any windows I have open, but I can't close or maximize windows or open programs...I can't even use ctrl-alt delete to turn it off, I have to press the start button for a couple of seconds to turn it off. If I start a virus scan as soon as I turn on the computer and leave it running for about 45 minutes the laptop (a HP model, if it helps) starts working normally. I have tried 2 different virus scans and they find no virus. Help!

I would wipe everything off the hard drive and also reset your bios. Your bios could be infected by a virus. That is why your virus checker comes up with notta. If that doesn't work then its a hardware issue.

I would suggest downloading an anti spyware program like ad-aware. Scan your pc with that selecting full scan. Reboot, download Stinger from the McCafee website, its free as well. Scan and reboot. If that doesn't help try a system restore from the system tools menu.
If this fails, I fear you will have to backup and reload. This is sometimes the better option if it starts taking too long to resolve a problem.
Hope this helps.

Start up the PC in Safe mode (press Shift + f8 at bootup) then when in safe mode try running the virus scan and if possible a system restore, then try running windows normally. Safe mode tends to be better isolated from malicious viruses. If that does not work, then back up your data and re-install windows.

Contact HP and ask them for help. You can try reinstalling the Operating System but I recommend you call HP.
