Tomatoes are one of the most tasty and nutritious fruits available for our everyday diets. Extensive research around the world has shown the benefits of eating tomato based foods on a regular basis. Tomatoes are a major and one of the only dietary sources of the anti-oxidant lycopene, an agent that amongst other things has been found to reduce the risk of a number of cancers. This includes (but is not limited to) prostate, lung, stomach, pancreatic, cervical, colorectal, oral and esophageal forms of this disease. Research has also shown that tomatoes may help in reducing circulatory problems of the heart, brain and elsewhere. This research has shown that tomatoes help to prevent blood clots from forming in the bloodstream – similar to the activity of aspirin.

Many people do not realize that a tomatoe is part of the fruit family. Therefore when you eat tomatoes it is like getting another serving of fruit each day. You can even eat them like you would an apple. Lots of vitamin C in this little red fruit. There are many types of tomatoes, some are acidic and some very mild. Mabe you have heard of these types:
Cherry, Beefsteak, Plum,(there are many more types)
I even grew yellow tomatoes last year. You do not need a garden to grow them. A large ,wide bucket or container sitting on your balcony or porch or even just sitting on the lawn will give you tomatoes for weeks through till the fall. Plant them in some good soil( I use the bag type from the garden centers or Wal-Mart) Then I feed them miracle grow for tomatoes once a week to give them nutrients and this produces bigger fruit on the vines. It is great to just go and pick some off your own vine fresh as you want them.
Lots of sun and watering them daily is a small price to pay for the fun you have growing your own produce. You do not need to be a farmer with a big field . In other words.....theses are very beneficial to your health. Enjoy!
P.S. You only need a few( depending on your container) plants to have enough to last the summer and into the fall. I use about 6 -8 plants that cost me in total $6.00 to buy.
