Why do people associate counseling with being bad?

People always take to offense when a person tells them to go to counseling..... What are your imputs? Would you get offended?

    Some people get offended because it is very hard to admit to yourself that you have a problem--and second of all, that you can't handle the problem by yourself....that you need help. If you can get past those two things, that is half the battle.

    Unfortunately, a lot of bad information is out there. Some people believe that counseling means you are insane. It's not true at all. If you were insane, counseling wouldn't help you at all. Counseling is for people who DO have the mental capabilities to get through the problem so that it doesn't hurt them like that again. That's a really good thing. Then all you have to do is have to WANT to get better.

    There's a stigma attached to it. Society thinks "omg, you're talking to a complete stranger about your problems???? There must be something really wrong w/ you." When in all actuality, it's perfectly fine.

    We should view counseling as a helpful tool.

    people feel offended because they would not admit that they had problems or issues.
