If you read through the book of Proverbs, you'll have better understanding of righteousness and wickedness, rights and wrongs, good people vs bad people, do's and don'ts , it is full of wisdom and helpful insights for everyday living,

That's where I started, and it helped me get a deeper understanding when I read other books in the Bible. Proverbs made me want to know more so I searched the Scriptures deeper to understand the reasons behind them.

Then I read John. it starts out with "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....." That gives a foundation. It encourages you to want to learn more about Jesus.

After reading John,I wanted to know the Truth about God and know for myself what exactly happened 'after' Adam & Eve, so I started at Genesis and couldn't put it down after that. So if you wanted to know more about God, and His Love & His never-ending kindness' for people, you could read the Old Testament from the beginning.

Or, if you want to learn more about Jesus, and know exactly who He is, what He said & did, and all that He went through for us, then turn to Matthew, and start with the New Testament,

The book of Romans explains what Christ has done for us and the "why's" behind. I Corinthians 13 teaches what Love is, Hebrews 11 teaches faith.

The best book in the bible to begin reading is the Gospel according to St. John. Why? The bible itself answers that question in John 20:31:

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Remember that the bible is not like any other book. You don't need to begin with Genesis and end with Revelation. You can, but it's not really necessary, especially for someone reading it for the first time.

    A piece of advice:

When it comes to reading God's Word, remember:

"A butterfuly covers more ground, but a bee gathers more honey."

    Be like the bee.

Read to learn, and be blessed.

Most people recommend John because it really lays a foundation of salvation and explains it.

Romans is a good place to start, too. It really tells you about your position in Christ and your identity in Him.

I have found that having a Bible dictionary and concordance help immensely when reading. By understanding each word in context, it's amazing how much revelation comes. I usually study the amplified version because it explains the meaning of many scriptures a bit more.

Start with the book of John because it is the easiest gospel to understand and relate to. It tells the story of Jesus in "the language of the common man" so to speak.

The best place to start is Genesis. Its the easiest to read because its sets the scene for the whole bible for you. There is nothing before it so its not like you dont know whats going on.

  • Start in Genesis 1 and read on. If you begin elsewhere you will miss a lot that cross references, and is relevant to other scripture and passages. God Bless

My favorite is always John 21. It's the one where Jesus shows himself to his disciples that he arose from the dead. I like the ending of that book.

25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Yes, and it's the gospel that's written for "everyone".

James is good, but kind of hard-nosed. and the Psalms are always a good idea . . . such a great reflection of real life.

its one of the Gospels. excellent place to start....i personally believe any of the Gospels--Matthew, Mark, Luke or John would be a great place. the Gospels give the account of Jesus' life from being to end....they are all the 'same story' just told from their different points of view.
