(posting again) help! OT activities for teen with sensory integration dysfunction to get used to loud noises?

I really need help. Can anyone point me to resources or activities to help me start dealing with my inability to handle loud noises due to sensory integration disorder? I can't deal with them at all. it's completely involuntary, and it's destroying my life. I'm trying EFT, self-massage, deep muscle work, etc., but I'm just kind of making a lot of this stuff up as I go. Please, any ideas you might have would be amazing!

Thanks so much.

Update:

it's not really a problem with it being painful or distracting or hard to tell sounds apart. I have pretty good ears, compared to most people. The problem is that it gets so loud it overwhelms me. It feels like my ears are suffocating... and a lot like going down a giant hill on a roller coaster. I feel out of control and my arms twitch if I don't cover my ears, and if I try to go on resisting I eventually end up curled in a ball. =/ I have no control over this. It is also painful, but more than that it's like I flinch/grimace spasmodically involuntarily (sometimes even at relatively quiet sounds). I don't want to, I'm made fun of a lot for it, and it's leading me to avoid important stuff, such as church, synagogue (complicated!), mandatory chapels and meetings, concerts with friends, tasks at work... the list goes on and on. :( I've been practicing the "desensitizing" method for several years, to no avail. =(

My son has central auditory processing disfunction, is what you have a lot like that? Noises that are not part of what he is listening to or doing, at any time, totally disrupt what he is trying to do.

When you listen to music, do you listen to it, loudly? The reason I am asking is this: Are you able to listen to music at a low level only? If this is true, can you practice listening to the low sounds, then, slowly turn the volumn up, little by little.....stopping at different levels to desensitize yourself? I am not sure that I think that loud noises being offensive to you is a bad thing! I cannot handle loud, noisy sounds, either. My ears really hurt when noises are loud, and so do my grandson's. What specific loud noises upset your system the most? I hope that you do find the way to help your system, quickly. Good luck!

With EFT try muscle testing for any toxins or alergic reactions. On the eft site there is a DR Stephen Daniel, he has had great success with the exact challenge. Good luck
