How do you lose the war on poverty, and drugs and still believe that you can win the war on terrorism .?
All these wars have a similar component and that is they involve people . People in the war on poverty who are not able to function in society because of learning , drug or mental problems . The war on drugs because so much money is at stake for those wishing to put their own lives on the line to make money selling and trading drugs .
And the war on terrorism which is one that is about practicing the religious traditions followed by hundreds of millions of people . While we may feel it is wrong to stone a woman to death for having an affair to these people it is a way of life .
Since we do not respect these people because of their belief's and expect change are we doomed to fail no matter how many soldiers we have in the middle east .

Well the idea of fighting a war in the middle east to either change someones beliefs or way of life has only had a short run of since the beginning of time. Not one of these has really worked....so we stand a pretty good chance. Remember the Soviests were in Agahnistan for 12 years and made it no where...but don't worry we can do it if we stay the course...for I think the next 30 or so years...oh wait that is just the same amount of time Bush and gang are trying to get Oil rights from Iraq for, wonder why I picked that amount of time.

No one can win a war on poverty or drugs. There has always been illegal and legal trading of drugs. People who are in poverty in the US (not in Africa or Mexico or any other poverty stricken place) the US only, made a choice to live on the street. We can't help them anymore than we already have. Of course, they are going to blame every one else but it really has been their choice to become poor in the first place. If we don't have the war here in the states we were very lucky. The war on terrorism is complicated. Unfortunately we only have the news, and we can't always trust that.

You are correct. Poverty is most often a personal problem. The war on drugs(prohibition seeks to make criminal that which is not) is unwinable. The war on terrorism however is a different story. First it is time to be more tolerant. We in America may find the stoning of an adulterous repellent and barbaric. That is our opinion. In traditional societies such as Islam, the death of one woman is all it takes to stop adultery for a period of time in the local in which it took place, a small price to pay. One life for social stability. Our morals or lack there of should not be imposed on other countries. Every time a video of Fred and Ted getting married in SF is played in the Arab world, their mullahs can recruit More suicide bombers but claiming this is what the west would force upon us. They are of course correct. Secularists in the west have long complained about the male dominated family structure, the repudiation of gay rights, abortion on demand, and the other planks of the social liberal agenda found repulsive by traditional societies. Our government should start a dialog with the Islamic world that would insure to them that we will not impose the Godless values of the left upon them, that shows Americans as believers of God, as people of faith, and not the intolerant bigots they think we are. Who are we to impose our will on others?

Poverty more times than not is a personal choice... the government can't control how you live your life or weather you have the motivation to change it or not.... So don't blame our government because people can't figure it out on their own!!
Drugs are illegal and yes we still have a big problem with them here. That's because people enjoy getting high, and they like them so they don't have to live in reality... So it's hard to fight against something that makes people feel good (Addiction)
Terrorism, Well unlike drugs people don't generally like the feelings that a terrorist brings them.. Most people DON'T want to be blown up.. Call me crazy!!! But terrorism is not a bring it on yourself or instant feel good problem, unlike poverty or drugs.. So I'm pretty sure that most the world agrees that terrorism is a bad thing... I don't know about you, but I personally don't want me or my loved ones to be blown up, shot or beheaded anytime, anywhere... I don't have to worry about my child going to school and becoming a terrorist...
So see it's not that one is less meaningful as the other, but you have to use your common sense when asking a question like this. It's not that we don't want poverty or drugs dealt with and gone, it's just harder to unite people on the issue because of the facts behind them... But Terrorism is an issue that no one can deny to be wrong!!!

You are correct the LIBERALS disrespect the people! They don't choose to believe the people are capable of having/creating a better life.
The LIBERALS never answer or even ask the question what happens if we leave. They didn't ask that, when they were advocating leaving Vietnam. They obviously didn't learn from the aftermath.
I agree that militarilly we can't win their harts. What would happen if the terrorist's 5th column (THE PRESS & THE LEFT) changed their slant? Challenge the Iraqi people to be creative as the ones that moved to the 1st World & created wealth.
No the superior INTELLECT of the LEFT wouldn't for a moment consider thinking outside of their leaders talking points BOX.

The idea of winning a war on drugs, or terrorism or whatever is absurd becasue you cannot win a "war" over an idea, which is what is behind those pseudo-wars. If the Chinese government came here and wished to wage a war for our good to Confusianism, would we go along with it? No! We would hold fast to our culture and our ideals, and fight against them. Why are we surprised we are unwelcome in the Middle East?

So you are for letting the poor, the drug lords, and the terrorist take over our country. Here is another link between the three...none of them have a time line for withdrawal. What you are saying is that you want us to stop helping the poor, you want drugs in our schools, and you want the terrorists to be able to kill because of their religion. Maybe if you and other liberals would stand with the rest of the country, we could win at least one. I feel you have taken the defeatist point of view on the subject.

None of the mentioned "wars" has yet been "lost" because the fight continues on each front by those dedicated to winning the war. Unfortunately, no war can be won by those on the front lines without strong majority support and long-term committment from those for whom they are fighting; and wars are only lost when apathey, ignorance, selfishess, and political agendas team up to errode that support to the point that front line fighters give up in futility.
We, as a people and a society, have had it so easy for so long that we have become little more than apathetic, self-indlugent procrastinators who take everything we have for granted, promise to take care of major problems sometime "tomorrow", and continue to sing and dance while remaining oblivious to approaching danger. It is much easier for a bunch of spoiled brats to sit on their backsides and whine about things they don't like instead of getting up to become an active part of the cure instead of being an apathetic part of the problem.
As for the war on terror by Muslim extremists, they brought that war to us and will continue to bring it against every nation of the world until everyone has converted to their radical Islamic beliefs - or dies. I suppose our continued efforts (in all the wars you mentioned) depends upon our choice to remain as apathetic whiners or as active participants in the battle. If we simply find it too much trouble to fight or support efforts in any of these wars, perhaps we should just give up now and learn to enjoy being impoverished, radical Muslim drug addicts? Those of us who find little comfort in being subjected to either of those three anal carbuncles will continue to fignt and strongly support efforts on all fronts.

"we" do you have a turd in your pocket or something?
"war" is just a term, get over it! it means we are going to put more effort towards stopping terrorism. as for drugs we are putting severe dents in their supply lines but they cross through the Mexican American border so with all the activism for illegals it is getting harder to stop the flow of illegals and drugs into the USA.
I do not mean to ramble but you are saying its okay to kill people because they were rapped? "we" should allow them to kill people because of an outdated book? if that was the case America would let Christians kill every abortion doctor.

By design, the only ones who win wars against ambiguous social ills are politicians.
