Mold in basement of our raised ranch home....?
There is mold on the walls of our basement in our raised ranch. It has been bleached and some areas still returns.. How can we determine if it is harmful. We are thinking of having some profesionals come in to tear some walls down and replace them. But how do we know if there is mold that isn't visable. If it is going to be done, I'd rather have it all done at once!

Get it tested immediately!!! You can't tell deadly mold from harmless mold!

You have mold because you have moisture. If you don't address the moisture, you will never get rid of the mold, no matter how many times you tear down the walls.
Bleach will kill all types of mold. Like I said, it keeps coming back because you haven't fixed the moisture problem. It's not so much the type of mold that is harmful, it's the quantity. Mold reproduces by releasing spores into the air that you breathe. The more mold you have, the more spores are released, the more likely you are to get sick. Dry out the basement, spray with bleach water, and the mold won't come back.

Actually, if you are not allergic to mold, black, white , or any kind are harmless to you. That report on CBS 60 minutes is nothing more than a Scare Headline.
The Center for Disease Control Atlanta in a report recommends the removal of any mold that causes an allergeric problem black, white or any kind. Otherwise they are neither life threatening or harmful. That is direct opposite to the CBS report. The CDC report is true, because how many people around you know of dying from mold? None i know of.
Before you tear into your house, its a fact that house gutters and poor drainage from the roof contribute to nearly 90% of basement moisture problems.
Make sure you have good gutters, properly draining the roof water. In one case i heard of the rain water went directly thru the overhang and between the brick and down into the space between the brick and foundation. It caused mold in basement and bad smell. Once fixed, the mold was gone.
Drain your gutters at least 25 feet from the house thru an undergrund pipe, get the water away from the house.

Actually very few of the molds are really very harmful. All that mold remediation years ago was mostly a hoax that drove up insurance premiums and made a number of people a lot of money.
As stated above you need to fix the moisture problem first before you can completely get rid of the mold. Have you tried any of the foundation sealers? Once you stop the moisture you should be able to treat the mold and maybe keep a de-humidifier around.

Since you did disclose all the mold we knew about & had it remediated 2 yrs ago when we installed the sump pump & it never returned and they never had it professionally inspected, which still would not likely to have been found as most inspections would not take down a wall or a floor apart to check for mold. Even if she tries to sue I doubt it would stand up in court.

well if you have a home inspector come in he/she can tell you about your mold problem.
keeping a de-humidifier on will help keep the mold problem away....
