A new proposal for electing politicians. What do you think?

I think most people have no idea what they are voting for when they vote for a politician. Instead of voting for a person, I think people should vote on issues. For example if you agree with the majority of the following statements, your vote is for the democratic candidate:

1 We should do nothing to protect our country from terrorists.

2 We should do nothing to secure our borders

3 The government should be completely in charge of our health care system

4 15 year old girls be able to get abortions without their parent's consent

5 Our taxes are way too low

6 Illegal aliens should have free health care and education that American citizens have to pay for

7 Global warming is the biggest problem we face today

8 People who murder children do not deserve the death penalty

9 We don't have enough lawsuits

10 Socialism is a good thing.

I will post another list later to see if you should vote Republican

Everything on your list deserves a no vote with clarification given on #8 to insure that abortions are not considered children in that instance.

The problem is that Democrats and Republicans do not all neatly fall into one column of beliefs or another, just as most Americans are partly conservative on some issues and partly liberal on others. It's hard to find a politician who would fall lock step in line with one group or another. Partly this is a result of ideology not meaning as much as it used to. Thus, politicians often ignore party platforms and run on issues they think will best work in their state or district. Even agreeing on a majority of issues would present problems. For example, how would you go about changing the Constitution?

I agree perhaps the political system could use some reform. The problem is in the mechanics of the transition of getting from point A to point B

We live in a representative democracy, or a republic. Not an absolute democracy. We elect people to vote in our interests. We don't vote on issues, except for specific referenda (local bond issues and school taxes).

This is the most efficient system, or we would be voting every week or two.
