Whatever happend to rational thought?
Having hung out in the political area for a few days I notice everything is insults and pure emotional drivel, from both sides. If the Constituion were written today, we would have far less freedoms because people's emotions to protect certain things and have compassion for, and impose proper beliefs would make our constituion an 1,000 page document that would be so restrictive that there would be no freedom.
Liberals, yes war is evil, but what happens if we leave?
Conservatives, you say you love this country, yet you do not want a national energy policy that moves us off oil. Market forces are not always the best for National Security.
Lately, and I hate to say this, the only people who make sense to me are the Ron Paul supporters. I see libertarians as pro-drugs and pro-guns, a nice mix, which I cannot accept, but am getting there.

Rational thought?? This would require the ability to think and draw conclusions. That means, not reciting someone else dribble but to actually investigate facts and draw conclusions. Rational thought went out the window when the government said people dont have to be responsible for themselves and began setting up the welfare state.
Oh, do not worry about a thing, we realize the depression was here but we will start a social security program for you so you wont have to worry about retirement. You cant afford insurance - oh dont worry we will start a medicare system for you to help there also. What, you cant work, dont worry, we have food stamps available to you so that you can survive.
Please, give me a break. If people got off their BLEEP BLEEP and actually took care of themselves we wouldnt be where we are today. People would learn to think and make proper choices for their survival. It would become a necessity.
LOL - pro-guns and pro-drugs - LOL
Sorry I shouldnt be laughing this hard. I think you missed the point if that is your view of libertarians. Not to be surprised though as I am sure that is what about 95% of the population thinks. A little education can go a long way to help you make up your mind.
Libertarians are not pro anything except choice. We believe in freedom of choice of everything so long as force or fraud are not used to acquire it. While I do not use drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or caffine products (by my own choice) I still believe that if you want to use them you should be able to so long as you do NOT infringe upon or harm anyone else.
Most of us, if not all of us, are fairly well educated, highly capable of rational thought and unafraid to speak our minds. We tend to let others know what we think so that the other side of the arguement can be presented rather then just blindly following the herd. We encourage others to use rational thought as often as possible...it tends to lead to clearer choices.

You hit the nail on the head! Voting party lines is ruining our basic rights as citizens of the United States.
The political bantering back and forth gets worse every year. With the far left convinced they are right about freedoms and the far right convinced they are correct about what's best for the masses. Both are wrong because they only represent 50% or less of party affiliated citizens, I suppose that's why we have a constitution.
The day both sides sit down and work on a way to solve our National debt I will start thinking about voting party lines. Until then... Vote for the person! I'll vote for someone that hasn't been a lower than dirt, money grabbing, wall flower that thrives on how this current political atmosphere works.

Rational thought and common sense both died a slow agonizing death when the government school system became the dominate force in education and political correctness was carried to the extreme.
Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin.
Nothing changes when either party is in office. The only hope I see is term limits. Get rid of professional politicians. Let public service be a brief civic duty, not a career. That way they wouldn't be constantly running for office. Couldn't be any worse than we have now.

Ron Paul is all about bringing the US Constitution back into force as it should be. The UnPatriot Act would be done away with, and Congress would appoint an independent investigation to prove that the WTC were demolitied by NORAD and covert Israeli operatives, under the corrupt leadership of Cheney and Bush.
The war in IRAQ would be tried as a war crime -BUSH-CHENEY chief criminals.
This isn't emotion, just plain facts. Fact is the Bush-Cheney oil cartel have stolen the natural resources of Iraq and gouged Americans at the pump.
The sooner we get these crooks out the sooner there will be FREE MARKETS for oil again in the Middle East instead of the Bush-Cheney-Opec oligarchy.

Rational thought is not an absolute. It is always informed by the life experiences of those proposing to engage in it.
Our Constitution was written at a time when a couple hundred years of intense creation, exploration and investigation had brought educated men to a point of being able to see a way of organizing political society in a manner that was rational for its time.
While I agree the instances you cite are irrational by 18th century standards they are the rational conclusions of a self-satisfied society that has had nothing of any significance to accomplish in the past 30 years.
And Ron Paul is the only seemingly legitimate candidate in the race from either party.

I asked myself the same thing when I started in here. I was truly frightened by what some people said - however, I think a lot of people just go overboard to get a rise out of people (easy to do when you're behind a computer). This is not a forum for learning, but one of liberal/conservative bashing.

What happens if we leave? Easy. The Iraqis will be forced to take some personal responsibility, and our troops can come home to be with their families.
It's a win-win.
But I agree with you about the insults and nastiness. I admit, I occasionally give in to my temper and engage in less-than-adult behavior. But for the most part, I try to deliver my opinion as MY opinion and refrain from outright nastiness.
I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinion, but a rational discussion once in a while sure would be nice, wouldn't it?

I beleive this is going to be legal, everywhere. once you're against it, have not got one. undemanding as that. in case you're actually not waiting to have a newborn and you do not have an issue with it, then have one. this is going to be the womens determination, no longer the governments. although i do no longer think of mid-previous due term abortions would desire to be legal (it truly is after 12 weeks). At this element you're wearing a newborn, no longer a team of cells. different than in good circumstances, such because of the fact the toddler endangering the existence of the mummy.

Personally, I find Ultra Liberal/Conservative drivel to be quite entertaining,
I just sort of lie back and let it wash over me like the effluvia from some backed up intellectual sewer

So you're saying you want to continue to be dependent on foreign oil and not self sufficient? Do you not want cleaner air? Do you not want to keep American dollars in America?
