Not THE GLOBAL WARMING HOAX AGAIN!!!?

On that shell gas commercial with that guy with the long name, what is his problem? is it global warming related? (Global warming is a hoax to get money off 'alternative fuels' by the way. I relate ethanol to light cigarettes. More expensive, less milage, more money for the left wing.)

What, exactly , would be the point of a hoax that would save the lives of everyone-left, right, and middle?

You intimate that the "left wing" has alternative fuels all wrapped up, and won`t let Shell Oil in to the "plot"

    Right!

I haven't seen the commercial, but I can assure you that global warming is not a hoax. The theory has been around since the late nineteenth century, long before anyone suggested replacing fossil fuels with alternative sources.

I would, however, like to see what evidence you have supporting the idea that the theory will somehow make money for the left wing. Because I think you're just talking nonsense.

Ethanol production is a stop gap. True, it keeps fossil carbon from entering the atmosphere, but the agricultural process almost always involves cutting down wooded area (a long-term carbon sink) with annual plants which release their carbon back into the atmosphere every year - a net increase of CO2 to the atmosphere.

I do know that E-85 is cheaper than gas where I live...

Thats funny that you mention cigarettes. 40 years ago, it was not common knowledge that cigarettes were bad for you, even though people were already dying at accelerated rates from lung cancer, emphysema, and heart problems. Why did it take so long? Because there were a slew of politicians who were financially indebted to the success of the cigarette industry. It was against their best financial interest for the public to learn how deadly cigarettes are. So, the cigarette industry payed scientists to conduct studies to show that cigarettes were not bad for you, and were not addictive - a line they stuck to until the late 80's, and everyone whos paychecks were threatened went along with. With all the conflicting data, was it any shock that it took so long for the general public to learn that cigarettes are killers.

Is it any shock that the same is now occuring with global warming? Think of which industry would be directly impacted if global warming were true - the oil industry. Think of where the fortunes of most of our current administration lie in: President - oil rich family, VP - former CEO of Haliburton, Sec of State - former member of board of directors of Mobil Oil Co., Chief of Staff - former lobbyist for General Motors.... all a bunch of people who's wealth would be directly impacted. It is very easy for a person to believe something if that belief directly impacted their paycheck.

Global warming, Green house effect have all been around since the early 1970. Its just our government and all the oil producers shruged it off as a hoax back then and now we are facing a real serious growing problem. Example: Remember when Calif. use to be sunny and warm all year long and that their winters were still warm but they received alot of rain? Well guess what, not so any more, Calif. over the last few years has had record cold winters and with measureable snow fall in areas.

This in return, look at the east coast, they have had more mild winters ove the last few years and the central states from east to west have almost completly switched climates. Here in Wisconsin over the last three years we have had very mild temps and more consistant condition favorable to our counter part Indiana and nevada, which have had alot copler temps.

Yes Global warming, The Green House Effect, the polar Ice caps melting are very real and if things don't change soon, this world is going to start declining very fast.

It's not a hoax. Because of two closely related things. The peer reviewed scientific data shows clearly that it's real. And AS A RESULT there is a massive scientific consensus. This will be a little long, because it contains substantiation, not wild assertions, and doesn't throw crazy numbers around without references.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the scientific community, short and long.

    http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate...

    http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf

The real proof is in the references in these documents. It is necessary to go to a library and read them. Scientists do that routinely.

And, as a result, there is a massive scientific consensus. Every major scientific organization agrees.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on...

    Virtually all climatologists agree:

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/570...

Here's what scientists say about the consensus:

"Regardless of these spats, the fact that the community overwhelmingly supports the consensus is evidenced by picking up any copy of Journal of Climate or similar, any scientific program at the AGU or EGU meetings, or simply going to talk to scientists (not the famous ones, the ones at your local university or federal lab). I challenge you, if you think there is some un-reported division, show me the hundreds of abstracts at the Fall meeting (the biggest confernce in the US on this topic) that support your view - you won't be able to. You can argue whether the consensus is correct, or what it really implies, but you can't credibly argue it doesn't exist."

    Dr. James Baker - NOAA

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

All this is why smart people in all walks of life who are not liberals or environmentalists have accepted global warming as real. Just a few examples:

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"I agree with you (Gore) that the debate over climate change is over."

    Rep. Dennis Hastert, Republican, Illinois

Hastert wouldn't agree with Gore about where to go for lunch, but he agrees about this.

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

    Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

When Scott says this, he annoys his major supplier, China.

The real question is why have deniers fallen for a few skeptics, whose arguments are refuted by the data.

I think you may be right. Seeing that oil reserves will eventually disappear, it makes sense that the gas companies would start now to have a product to sell in the future. Start up times on something that big would be smart to begin generating a market. I'm not sure which "wing" makes money though.

I can remember when the next Ice Age was coming. Now it's global warming, and Al Gore is making movies. What happened to the good old days when movie stars became President. God I miss Reagan, He would tell them where to stick their theory.

The system is BROKEN as it stand right now. It's NOT beyond fixing though. What it's going to take is a concerted EFFORT by EVERYONE. Not just republicans, not just Democrats, Not just Liberals, not JUST consvervatives, NOT just Christians, not just non-Christians, but EVERYONE.. Every single ONE of us needs to put aside our differences and recognize that we're ALL in this together. If or when the environment falls apart it's NOT going to affect just ONE group of folks, it's going to affect EVERY single person, not JUST in the US, but every single person on the face of this beautiful and unique planet that is our HOME.

My grandfather used to say to me ... " a dog doesn't crap where he eats" yet, THAT is exactly what we ARE doing. We are trashing our planet at an every increasing rate without understanding the ramifications of our actions.

This ALL needs to stop. HOW can we, as average citizens, STOP it? WE need to stand together, with ONE voice and TELL our leaders "enough is enough!!!" . You're listening to the WRONG people, You're listening to profit motivated, big business people. You're listening to people who have OTHER agendas and do NOT have the interests of everyday people like you and I at heart.

Additionally, we as individuals, HAVE to stop being so selfish in our ways. We have to go about our daily lives, leaving as little damage to the world around us as we possibly can. plant gardens and trees, drive a little less, drive more economical vehicles and avoid the gass-guzzling SUV's, drive LESS, purchase enviromentally friendly products and from environmentally conscious companies (there are a lot of them out there, they just don't go around beating themselves on the chest, bragging), Conserve energy, eat healthier, take care of yourselves with regards to your health, be kinder to other people and living things, and be MORE conscious of what you throw away as trash, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as much as you possible can. It's not all that complicated and certainly not all that restrictive to your lifestyle as SOME folks would have you belive. Heck, if you're walking down the street, PICK up that candy wrapper and put it in a trash receptacle and don't just LEAVE it for someone else to do. They're ALL little things but if everyone did one or two LITTLE things every day it would ALL add up to be a significant improvement.

By the way, you can also ORGANIZE. Write your elected officials and leaders and tell them your concerns. Get together with your friends and CHOOSE a good cause and decide on a course of action to take and FOLLOW through on that action. this Yahoo answers thing has POTENTIAL. It's reaching MILLIONS of folks ALL around the world. GEt ALL of your friends in on htis. Cut and paste the GOOD posts from people into e-mails and SEND them to everyone you know and have THEM pass them along to evertyone that THEY know as well, and so on and so on. Eventually EVERYONE will know about these concerns and HOW to DO something about them.

MOST importantly, get OFF this damn computer once in a while, get OUTSIDE, enjoy the world of nature. There is nature even in the most crowded of cities. TALK with people, befriend them, get to know and understand who they are and where they're coming from. Don't just hang with people who are like yourself, get to know folks who are VERY different from you. LEARN about them, FIND out what you DO have in common. Work on that everyday and you'll find yourselves making lots of new and interesting friends. The ONE thing that there is no such thing of is that there is NO such thing as having TOO many friends and acquaintences, only to many enemies. One enemy is TOO many. The best thing you can do for yourselves is to LOVE yourself, and that love of self is best develpoed by loving OTHERS, by loving your surroundings and by loving the EARTH that you walk on.

Sorry about the long winded post, and I'll shut up for now.

    Brightest Blessings
