I think so. There are differences in culture, politics, religion, sex, etc. between groups of people, but the things we consider most personal are the things that we all have in common as humans (whether we acknowledge it or not). The desire to be happy, fulfilled, loved, and free; the need to understand our surroundings; a conscience that tells us to do what is right and not do what is wrong (even though we often disagree on what those things are); the compulsion to care for our loved ones and protect them from what we think is bad for them (though we also disagree on what these things are); etc. These are all deep-set personal human experiences that, despite cultural differences, we all share.

In a figure sculpture class, I had a teacher note that we should constantly check our model as unconciously we would sculpt our own form as that is what we are most familar with- I started looking around the room and he was right! I still do it years later-people will even draw squat or square or thin and tall as their body shape-you most know (unless you don't really look)your own self in the mirror-one of those things that sticks with you---and I'm a curvy square! ;0)

  • "personal" ...... is derived from the word "person"... the most common word ! literature answers it all..... yes, personal is most common because its every persons story and not just yours.......
