My SUNBURN on my back is giving me some serious pain!?

To describe my sunburn pain would be as follows:

BITEING like a fire ant attack.

STABBING ITCH like someone is drawing on my back with the sharpest knife in the world!!!

The pain goes SO DEEP DOWN INSIDE ,way under the skin ,it shoots all the way to my inner back and back up again!

What can I do for it? Advice from anyone? I'm willing to try anything at this point!

Oh being a fair skinned red head, this brings back memories. In the future, make sure you were a T-shirt in the sun so as not to get such a bad sunburn. However, in the meantime, DO NOT use wet towels on your back as some have suggested. The towels are much too rough and will make it more painful for you. The best thing to do is take a cold bath and add some vinegar to the bath water. Pat your back dry and put some Aloe Vera gel. Take some Ibuprofen and Benadryl to help with the pain and itching. Finally take an old soft COTTON sheet, and cut it into pieces that will fit across your back. Make a cooler full of ice water and soak the sheet pieces in the ice water. Use one at a time to lay across your back. As one gets hot, switch it with one that is in the ice water.

Noxema works well also, but can get messy if you are trying to sleep. However, it works well if you are planning on going outside the next day to protect the areas that are already burnt. I lived through many a days as summer camp with Noxema across my face and sholders.

There was this stuff...my parents used on my back...called 'Foil'. It stinks REALLY bad...like foil and kinda...weird...but it helps SO much.

If you can't find that, wet some towels (or a shirt) in cool/cold water and put them over you back (or on)...it will help with the pain. Also...think about taking a cool bath of you have a tub...NOT a shower...

I'd send someone out to get something for sunburns though...as soon as possible or get some kind of sleep pills and just keep yourself knocked out as much as possible until it all goes away.

I dont envy you at all. Only advice I can give is to keep the area cool. That will help with the pain. Use aloe gel (I keep mine in the fridge so it is that much cooler) I would also sit in front of a fan or air conditioning unit so the cool air can blow on your back.

    Also take some benadryl.

Everyone says aloe gel, but that stuff makes it worse when i have a burn! I think it has alcohol in it to help it dry, but that jsut makes it worse!

I have always put Noxema on it. People think Im crazy, but this is what my grandma and mom always did and it really works. The menthol will help cool it, it will absorb into your skin, and it is very moisturizing. You might not even peel! Just put on a lot of it and reapply every couple of hours. Also drink a lot of water or tea to keep hydrated, and your skin will feel better in general.

Put some vinegar in the fridge or freezer to cool and dab it on your back with a clean soft cloth it really does help and in future use a high sunscreen and take it slowly as you are risking skin cancer!

You need some Aloe Vera from the plant or buy that green aloe vera lotion at your local drugstore. Take lots of cold showers and use lots of lotion.

From now on use 50 everyday! That is what I do and I am tan!

Buy yourself some calamine lotion it does the trick. If you buy it put it in the fridge for a while then put it in, you'll end up screaming when putting it on but it will be worth it!
