Topically, goldenseal root is a wonder-working antibiotic. Just open a capsule and sprinkle over the moistened wound. It will stain yellow but will heal a boil almost overnight.
Internally, Burdock Root taken as a tea is great blood purifier. Either boil the root 5 minutes, then steep 5 minutes, strain and drink, or buy liquid extract and put 30 drops in a cup of hot water. Drink 2x daily for a couple of weeks. Safe for everyone.
Make sure your husband is not diabetic as recurring boils are one symptom of high blood sugar.

How long has he been on the antibiotics and how far does the circle of redness extend out?
A. You need to give the antibiotics time to do their job.
B. The boil is supposed to be swollen and red, he just drained it and it is still healing.
However, if AFTER all the antibiotics are GONE and the boil site is still red and swollen, then your husband needs to go back to the same Doctor OR see a specialist.
Don't toy with alternative medicine and boils. It's not a wise idea.

Boy these things are difficult to get under control. Most important thing is scrupulous cleanliness. Wash it at least twice a day, 3 would be better, and as soon as it can take it, scrub it. Also important to not wear tight pants that restrict the air circulation and rub on the wound. Keep it covered when he's dressed, uncovered when home and undressed (just don't let any dirt into it). And use a combination ti tree (often spelled tea tree) & vitamin e oil. The E promotes healing & the ti tree oil has wonderful antiseptic/antibacterial properties. Just don't put a bandage over it when the oil is on it. It tingles a bit but it keeps it germ & bacteria-free.
Source(s): My husband has been getting boils for years & he's bad at keeping them clean so they recur, which has caused me to research them quite a bit. He also doesn't believe in ti tree oil so won't use it, but it worked great for me with a rash/fungus topical steroids & antibiotics did nothing for. It also helped a couple of other people I suggested it to for resistant problems like this. - 1 decade ago
Try applying manuka honey on the boil site. It has an excellent reputation for healing and it won't interfere with the antibiotics your husband is taking. You might be able to find dressings already prepared with manuka honey or creams, but the pure honey itself is always best. Whether you use manuka honey or not, you should also inspect the wound frequently and if it changes colour (looks mottled, darker (livid) or as if it contains puss or if the redness seems to spread) make sure you contact your doctor immediately. Have a look at the webpage I have mentioned to find some more information, because manuka honey comes in different grades.
Best wishes

What I have found most helpful for boils and skin infections is a warm compress with epsom salts and tea tree oil.
It helps them clear within a few days to a week. Tea tree is a powerful antiseptic.
You can find antiseptic creams with tea tree oil in most health food stores as well. It stings, but it works.

I work at GNC (General Nutrition Company) and we reccommend Collodial Silver as a topical apllication, however at the store I work at we only sell it in liquid form. Keep up on your husbands vitamin intake as well, fill him full of immune vitamins, like, vitamin E, C, A and Zinc. Aciphidophulis is a probiotic which will help build up his immune system as well. Good Luck.

the antibiotics should've worked. if he gets recurrent boils something is definetly going on inside him (physically or emotionally)...check with a traditional chinese doctor or a homeopathic one. try a calendula or chamomile tea to put on it, then put castor oil (that really works) several times a day
