Of Course paying for gas takes money away from other priorities. But Sticker shock on gas, may change driving habits for a short time, in the long run, it will be accepted and driving habits will stay the same

When it is $4 for the cheap gas I think we'd cut back on our weekend trips to our camper. I usually run errands on my way to and from work to avoid extra trips. We have already cut back on driving during the week as much as we can just so we can afford our weekend get aways.

In my case, since I drive 100 mi/day, $4/gal is the point where I would seriously quit driving to places other than to and from work. Even though with gas at $3.39, like it is right now is making me slow down, and drive less.
Sidenote: Ryan, no filling stations in the US sell 85 octane fuel. 86 is the lowest they can legally sell, and most don't even bother with the labour in providing it since most people go with regular unleaded (87 octane)

counter question:
What needs to happen before we start living more practically? Closer to where we work and spend most of our time so we don't have to rely on cars for every little trip we need to make.
