I have stayed at the Allegro many times, but I have not stayed there since Katrina, however, I can only imagine that it's been made even more beautiful by all the renovations they had to do.

First, let me say that the Allegro is on the best beach on the island. It is a sand beach, not ironshore. The snorkeling is so so. The have two pools, one is an activity pool with a swim up bar and the other is a more quiet pool. There is a snack bar, fruit bar, and smoothie bar located in the general vicinity of the pools.

Every night, the staff puts on a show, which is actually pretty entertaining. For example, one night is Miss Allegro, where they recruit guests to compete for the title in range of funny tests. They also have a sports bar and a spa.

The food is pretty good, with each day having a theme. Breakfast is great, and the two evening reservation only restuarants have very good food.

Another plus to the Allegro is the location in relation to the popular reefs. As a diver, it's nice to be the last picked up and the first dropped off, it probably shaves close to an hour off your excursion. They do have an onsite dive facility, but I have never used them.

Drawbacks...let see, the rooms are a little on the small side (but who goes on vacation to Coz to hang out in your room), and it can be a hike to either main dining facility or the beach, depending on your location. Also, if you intend on spending much time in town, it's about a $20 USD cab ride each way.

But across the street from the Allegro, there is a convenience store (can be handy) and a car rental place. Horse back riding is also withing walking distance.

I've stayed at quite a few of the hotels on the island, and I like the Allegro the best.

My family and I stayed there last year. It was great. I can not compare to other places on the island because it was my first time there. I can tell you that the rooms are small but I love the natural roofs. We had an upstairs room and after looking at a lower level room I would request the upstairs room. The natural roof is cathedral on the upstairs rooms so it seemed alot roomier.

The activities were great. Latino dancing lessons, volleyball in the pool, relays in the sand even egg toss. The staff make it fun. My boys (7 and 13 yo) loved the activity pool and my husband and I hung out at both pools. We walked in town instead of riding in a cab. Just go early because it does get very hot.

Breakfast was great every morning and the resturants that you make reservations at each evening have great food. The main dining is buffet and each night there is a theme for the buffet. The food is great even in the buffet. Try the coconut ice cream. We enjoyed the casual buffet with the kids and then reservations for a change. My 7 yo went to the kids camp everyday. There were movies and crafts. He was the oldest kid there but he loved it. It was like his own little fun place. It has a fence around it with all kinds of toys and a small pool.

Would go back many times. The only negative thing was traveling with kids all day through customs.

Its a sweet place to stay. I'm 19 and went there in 11th grade with my parents and younger sister who was 11 at the time. Every single day they had activities for the kids (water polo, water volleyball, volleyball etc...) Only downfall was that the rooms were very small. When I stayed there, the lobby and front of the hotel smelt like sewage since the plumbing isnt the best there. I dont know how the plumbing is now but back then, the workers told you to throw all TP in the trash and not in the toilet so there was alot of backups in the toilet but other then that, it was a sweet resort. I'd go there in a heartbeat again if I could.
