A recent worldwide poll votes the USA as being the most "unwelcoming" destination for foreign visitors.

Do you think that's true?

Update:

Most people are missing the point. The suggestion is not that Americans per se are unwelcoming, but that the entry process is.

Most people here, the Czech Republic, say that Americans in the US are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Who did the poll? And why did they conduct the poll?

No, I don't think this is true. It's just that more people want to go to the USA for all sorts of reasons - vacation, business, immigration (legal & illegal), terrorism, etc. It's the last two that cause all the problems. So many people hate America and Americans that they'll do anything to hurt us on our own soil. On the other hand, so many people see dollar signs and a better life that they'll also do anything to get to our soil.

How do you tell the difference between them, vacationers and businessmen included? You have to be vigilant and deliberate at every step of the "admissions" process. This makes things go slowly and increases the pressure on the workers charged with this task. They then become grumpy just like the visitors/immigrants who have had to deal with poor service from airlines. Put a bunch of grumpy people in a room together and you're bound to have problems and leave people with a negative impression.

I wonder what the outcome would be if travel to America were compared to travel to Russia. I've lived in Russia. It was not a pleasant experience getting into or out of that country. Travelling inside the country isn't much better. On several occasions I was denied hotel rooms because the specific town wasn't printed on my visa - that's an old rule that dates back to Soviet times but that was stricken from the books almost 15 years ago!!

well i do think so because americans (northern esp.) seems to be seeing their selves as if they're the highest of all nations, and the people who visited can feel so much the unwelcomeness and the DISCRIMINATION...as if all people that aren't american are low people.

what does being white got to do with how you are to be treated?being of differents color,or coming from different places like asia doesn't make you less than a human being and therefore you most americans out there better get some reality check..

Source(s): i'm not black i just hate discriminators

Tourism is big bucks all over the world, y would americans want to miss out on the green besides most polls and surveys are garbage, they dont get to the bottom line. you cannot generalise like this, there are good and bad people no matter where u go.
