They will all just about catch him when they start the points over at the beginning of the chase. He'll have to keep it up for the last 10 races to get it done, but if anyone can do it, Gordon can! Man, I've never hated the new system like I do right now. It wouldn't matter if Gordon had a 400 point lead when the chase gets here.

Just about anyone in the top 4 or 5 could but it is very doubtful. With as competitive as they all are it doesn't take that much to slide back either. It could have been Gordon that got a flat just after the start/finish line at Pocono instead of Johnson and then the question would have been "Can Gordon hang on after 2 bad races in a row?" The cards are falling his way and he has had luck on his side but he is a great driver on the best team in NASCAR and it will be tough to catch him BY the chase. One thing to remember is when the chase starts it anybody's cup for the taking.

Everyone thinks Stewert or Hamlin will but they are not winning. They can talk all they want about leading a lot of laps but the only one that counts is the last one. The way Jeff is going, he may have a hundred point lead over most of the drivers that make the "Chase" when it starts. He is over 6oo points over the 12th place driver so he definitly will be in the chase and start at the top. I say he wins his first Nextel Cup this year, after winning 4 Winston Cups.

In nascar, anything is possible, say Gordon has a run of bad luck, he could lose the lead within two or three races.

It depends on who is peaking when the chase starts. The #1 and the #12 have been on the hot streak lately... but it just depends on which chase driver is when the chase begins.

Lady L...tsk tsk...et tu mon conspiritouralis?

Jeff is going to have a cooling period but the lead he has so far will hold till the chase. The 4 wins he has now (5 or 6 soon?) will seed him in the top and he will get hot again at just the right time..The DRIVE FOR 5 IS ALIVE!

Maybe not after 26 races. But, lest we forget, starting with race #27 he will only have a 5 point lead.

If course, any one can if the conditions are right, If Jeff has trouble or is just flat out driven. It's happened before and will again. I just always hope not.

Yes, watch out for the Gibbs boys, as Smoke and Denny should have won at least 4 to 5 races between the two of them. They are way over due.

Gordon has been more lucky than good, and the luck cannot and will not continue. Mark my words.

I'm hoping not but of the drivers who are a real threat you have mention Jeff burton and Denny Hamlin who have been a threat week in and week out to win and keep winning
