put the soap in first. This gives it more time to dissolve, otherwise you may find that the undissolved soap particles are left on your clothes. I had a Maytag repairman tell me this--he was very adamant about making sure it was done the right way!

I put the soap in first and let it fill up half way with water before I put the clothes in.

I let the water run for a few minutes until I can see it in the bottom of the bowl of the washer and then put the soap in. Then I put the clothes in.

I don't think it matters, but I always put the soap in as soon as the machine starts filling with water. Mostly, that's so I don't forget to put it in altogether, because I've been known to get distracted and forget before. :)

well now that depends on the type of soap if you use dry powder soap put it in when it is filling up. if you use liquid you can put that in anytime.

I put it in as it is filling, before the clothes.

I'm not really sure it matters though :)
