Hiding 3 year old!!?
Yesterday my mother-in-law, who watches my 3 year old 2 days a week, called me in a panic saying she couldn't find my daughter! I ran out of the office to her house which is only 2 miles away. Turns out she was hiding in the house the entire time and did so because she didn't like the lunch her grandmother served her. Anyone else been through this hiding/running away phase and how did you deal with it? I've spoken to her many times now about why not to do those things and she seems to understand. Hopefully it won't happen again! Scariest moment of my life!!!

Wow! I can see how that might be scary, especially they first time they try it. When my little guy did this the 1st time, I was surprised that he understood "hiding" already! Now, my 3-year-old runs & hides when he doesn't want to get dressed, use the potty, or go to bed. BUT, he usually will either tell us he's hiding and sometimes even tells us where he's hiding. We make it a little game. "Where are you???!!" "I can't find ********* anywhere? Where could he be??!!" By keeping it a little more light-hearted, he doesn't use it as a "weapon" but it's just a delay tactic.

It's a phase- she'll grow out of it. I don't know if I dealt with my daughter doing the same 'the right way', but I just ignored her. When she got angry, she would hide. I just went about my thing and she'd eventually come out, like nothing ever happened.

kids will do the strangest things. hiding is just one of them and is nothing more than a message that she isn't happy, in this case, with her lunch. will she do it again? probably, but maybe not as soon as tomorrow. it will be a few days and then she'll do something else to show her displeasure about something. kids are like that. that's what makes them what they are, kids! they act out what they cannot express any other way.
