Why are people so concerned with poverty in third world countries????
It makes no sense to me why people, even celebrities will go out of their way to help and donate money to third world countries for poverty when there is poverty here in America. Take New Orleans for instance, there are sooooo many people who don't have homes, jobs, or food. Yeah, there may be organizations to help them but it doesn't seem to be helping a lot. And the homeless people aren't just in big cities anymore. That is definately a sign of poverty in America and no one seems to be doing anything about it. The government can only do so much because our tax money goes to other things. If they raised our taxes then we would ask why and refuse to pay it. I just want to know why does our society seem to care so much about other countries and not America?

Well for starters the American Govt, the Media and people at large do not want to admit that America has it's own third world country within it's borders. Large pockets of desperately poor, hunger and homeless people living in what they would like to portray as the best, most affluent country in the world.
So they hide it and ignore it and desperately hope it just goes away by it self.

There are plenty of things being done to help America. Havn't you noticed how spoiled we are? These ppl dont have ANYTHING, but eachother. They work their asses off to get what little they have. Americans work hard too, but we have so much more than those other ppl as far as resources and financially, or really everything... If we need something, it's not very hard for us to get. We are a free and independent country. We should be helping other countries achieve the same thing we have. I agree that there are ppl here that need help, but at least there is something being done. Also, ppl here have more means to help themselves. ppl in third world countries really NEED all the help they can get. We are so fortunate to have all that we do, I couldn't imagine asking for more. They don't ask for anything, but ppl complain when others generously donate THEIR time, money, or other assistance to them...it's not like those same ppl aren't donating to charities in the U.S. We would welcome the help if we were in their position, be thankful that we're not rather than complaining because we don't have more. Also, those of you who are so concerned about the help we need here, why are you sitting at home on ur computer in ur comfortable chair complaining about how someone should do something about it instead of doing something yourself?

The problem in third world countries is immense. One-sixth of the world lives on less than $1 a day. One-third to one-half live on less than $2 a day. One person dies every 3 seconds in Africa – mostly due to preventable causes. More than 10 million children die every year before their fifth birthday. More than 1 billion people are without access to clean water. More than 2.6 billion are without access to basic sanitation. I could go on, but I think you get the point, and I haven’t even scratched the surface of the problem. Nobody said these are the only problems in the world. But they are huge problems and they are not going to get any better without outside help.
I try to remind myself every day how lucky I was to be born in The United States of America. I am very proud to be a citizen of the greatest country in the world. I think it is very important to remember that we are also citizens of The Planet Earth. It is important that we take care of “our own.” To me that means the people of The United States and the people of third world countries. They are all “our own.” The fact that they are geographically further away or live under a different flag makes them no less one of “my people.”
Please do not use poverty in The United States as an excuse not to do something about poverty in areas like Africa. Africa is a disgrace to the human race and we have the ability to make it better – much better.

You can't seriously compare the poverty in America to the poverty in third world countries. The poverty in third world countries is much more severe than it is in America.

Although I do agree that we need to help those in America, the poverty conditions in third world countries are so much more greater...with the genocides, violence, rape, diseases, starvation, sex trafficking, illiteracy, poor living conditions, poverty etc that goes on. We help those in third world countries because it is nearly impossible for them to better their lives when they have nothing to even start from, with a weak government and political leaders. Americans are fortunate enough with government help such as welfare and WIC (women in care) programs.

The poor in third world countries would gladly change places with the poor in the US, they usually don't have food stamps and other government programs to get them by. They are often poor because there are no jobs available for them. In the US if you are unemployed it is usually your own fault. People in the US will often pass on jobs that they feel are beneath them that is partly why those jobs often get filled by illegals.

properly our firms purchase off their leaders, yet in spite of this they try this for the period of each united states of america. the only actual shady practices i detect are genetic patents, and planned exploitation of customary secure practices and human rights, which I do think of is on the decline as 0.33 international currencies bypass slightly extra at the same time as first international currencies drop. The "paying human beings a greenback an afternoon" argument I dont think of performs out, as a results of fact in some places of the international this is all this is had to drag human beings out of finished poverty, yet it may be effective to be sure various the products human beings interior the united states of a use honestly be made right here. (rather American flags)

maybe they like the fame of it?
or maybe because the other countries actually really are totally poor and starving unlike fat america.
One time i had to take some food unopened- (about an hour after purchasing) back to the store right after I bought it because it had some ingredients in it that i couldn't take, and they just threw it away like sick misers. They told me that they throw away tons and tons of perfectly good food.. there's so much to go around it's all just mismanagement.
