Another Processor question.?

It's a better processor for several reasons. The original P4's had 512k of L2 cache whereas the one you're looking at has 4 MB of cache. Combine that with the fact that you're looking at a dual core processor (effectively adding 2 processors and doubling your processing power for certain applications) and you have 2MB of L2 cache per core. I believe that the 2.8 GHz P4 operated on the 800 MHz FSB, however it was a flawed setup since in reality the bus was divided into 4 different channels at 200 MHz with a combined speed of 800 MHz. Confused yet? A lot of people were. However one of the things Intel did right when they released the new Core Duo 2 CPU's was freshen up the architecture for the FSB to take greater advantage of the potential speeds you could garner from a 1066 MHz FSB. To put it simply, the processor in the computer you're looking it is in actuality, 3 generations newer than your old processor. Make sure you have plenty of RAM to go with that new processor and you'll have a mathmatical crunching beast on your hands.

Im jealous that you're getting a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo, i have P4 2.4ghz and yes, core 2 duos, or even AMD's X2 will make Pentium 4's look like nothing.

Technically the Core Duo will be faster. If you are looking to upgrade your computer - check into the specs for the Core Duo - i.e. slot # - motherboard, RAM, etc.

also, the FSB looks nice and fast, meaning that it will communicate with the rest of the system really fast

Ghz is only one way of determining procesor speed... alot more depends on how much work the processor does during each cycle... if it does more cycles but it accomplishes less work during each cycle it'll perform slower than one that is slower but more efficient... this is why a slower clocked Core2Duo is faster than a higher speed Pentium 4
