Weird ear discharge?

I was at the beach last week and went swimming in the ocean. I ended up with an ear full of salt water that wouldn't drain. After a day I tried a Q-tip hoping it would loosen up the water. (Yes, I know this is not a good thing to do.) Anyway, when I pulled the Q-tip out the water hadn't drained but I had bright pink (almost flourescent) colored ear wax. (At least I am assuming it was ear wax.) I got some ear drops to loosen the wax, which also finally dislodged the ocean water and more bits of pink ear wax came out. I used the drops for a few more days and my ear is back to normal. At first I thought I had a bad case of swimmer's ear and maybe the stuff on the Q-tip was blood but it was way too pink to be that. I had a some mild pain in my ear, but no hearing loss, before the salt water finally drained. Now I am just wondering if it was ear wax and what caused it to turn bright pink. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

You might have had a mild ear infection, which changed the color. The salt water and ear drops may have also changed the color a bit..

I've had what you are describing, ALL the symptoms except for the black solid plugging up the ear, except mine was going on for a few weeks and not a year. I did make an appointment to see a doctor, but it went away on its own before the appointment. It was painful and annoying. I had to resort to putting small pieces of cotton in my ear to help with the leak. Sometimes, I even just put my head to one side and let the leakage drain out of the ear into the cotton. I would suggest your teacher see a doctor!
