Christians: What do you believe the Christian hell is like?

I'm just curious.

Since I don't believe in hell I don't have an opinion.

But my fanatical aunt says Hell is a volcano with constantly flowing molten lava, and all the sinners will be thrown into the volcano and walled in so they can't get out. There, their skin will be scorched by fire and lava for all eternity.

Gee, how much skin is there on these people for it to last an eternity? Truly amazing.

You and I know there is no hell.

The only hard definition the Bible gives about hell is that its a place where "there is much weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Beyond that any description anybody gives is just supposition.

There was never any mention of a volcano. In fact, there is never even mention of fire or lava. As for her idea of all the sinner being thrown in, that's kinda sorta true.

See, everybody on the planet (including you, and including me) is a sinner. That's just the way it is; even non-Christians admit the world is flawed. By default, all the sinners (which would be all of us) have condemned ourselves to hell because we sin.

But God didn't like that. See, He wanted us in heaven instead, because for some reason He likes us even though we are constantly doing the wrong thing. So he set up a loophole: He sent Jesus down to take the punishment for us and bail us out so we can go to heaven and live a nice life.

So your aunt was sorta right: Sinners do go to hell, but the ones that accept Jesus' loophole get bailed out and get to go to heaven.

Well, although the Bible talks about fire, it also talks about other things like worms, gnashing of teeth, and darkness. How can there be darkness if there is fire? Well, we have 2 options: 1) in Hell the fire doesn't generate light for whatever reason, or 2) the Bible speaks metaphorically when it describes Hell.

Actually, a lot of Hell in the Bible is just described as being "thrown outside" to the "darkness", where there is "weeping and gnashing of teeth." There's no mention of fire, although in other illustrations fire & sulphur is used (also a favorite of medieval artists depicting Hell).

All of these images (plus other concepts of the Bible) combine to just tell us this:

    1) Hell is separation from God

    2) because God = Good, Hell is what is left over when the Good is removed from our lives (i.e., all the Bad)

    3) people in Hell will remain concious, they will have a great sense of loss and regret (weeping, gnashing teeth, feeling burned, etc)

    4) Hell is scary (darkness, worms, death, the grave, the pit, the abyss, etc)

Revelations ends with the Saved living in a city with God, and the damned living outside the city (shut out by the gates). So that's Hell, i guess.

Christians won't be in Hell, but I will tell you what the Bible says about hell. It is a place of eternal punishment. It is a place of loneliness, and darkness. It is a place of eternal burning, but never being consumed by the fire. It is a place of great thirst that never gets quenched. It is a place of "weeping and wailing, and gnashing of teeth." No one will hear you when you cry out, and it is a place where God is not. It won't be any party with all your partying friends, regardless of what Satan has led you to believe. That's one of his greatest lies. That hell is a place to party with all the other bad people. Believe me, it will be no party! Satan uses people to get what he wants (mainly their souls) , all the while telling them lies, and making it all look so inviting. He has to. No one would want to go there if they knew what it was really like.

Just because you don't believe in hell, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. What if I'm right, and you're wrong? I would rather life my life believing there is a God, and finding out there isn't one, than living my life believing there isn't a God, and find our there is!!! It will be too late. What if you're wrong, and I'm right?????

I believe the worst part of hell will be eternal separation from God.

Will there be physical suffering? Perhaps.

For a Christian, the separation from God part is a more devastating thought than any possible physical pain.

I dont know exactly wat hell will be like but i know some things about it, 1 God calls it a lake of fire, people that go there will be there for all eternity,2 noone will go there until the last days where God judges people right now when someone dies they either go to Heaven if their saved and Limbo if they are unsaved waitin for the last days in which they will be resurrected and judged.

I would have to go with what the bible says about it. Hell is a place of pain, torment, sorrow, unquenchable fire, loneliness and the gnashing of teeth. It is outer darkness. Not some place I would wish on my worst enemy. That why I try to reach out to those who do not know Jesus. God is Just and he will have to punish the people who do not have Jesus. For all have sinned. Sinning is breaking God's law and time don't forgive it only Jesus does.

Honestly, I haven't gone into depth studying Hell. I only know it as the Lake of Fire and seperation from God. From there, I imagine utter loneliness and severe suffering - a horrible combination.

Malachi 4:1  For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

3  And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.

Verse 3 has the answer to your question. However, read all three verses.

    GOD bless

Rev 19:20, 20:10,14 & 15 discribe it as a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

I think that hell would be like total isolation for eternity. Just a cold, dark, lifeless abyss... totally devoid of love or any positive emotion.
