Yes, that's a great car for a teen! (Don't pay attention to the first answer. That person doesn't know what looks nice and what doesn't).

Not really, it depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle. Personally, I'd like to have one. Even though I can be classed as an old person, I'm in my mid 50's, it would still be fun to get one and modify it to my taste. By the way the Last PT rolls off the line this summer. Chrysler hasn't made the official announcement yet but they're not the biggest seller from Mopar.

Well......our daughter just rolled ours last week, so I would say....NOPE!! Buy a cheap older 80's car, let them trash that and maybe help them with a down payment when they have some experience. I drive an 86 5th Avenue as a Daily driver....cost me only a grand with only 50k on it. I figure its safe since the cops all over the Country used that body style in the 80's and my wife was rear ended in one a few years ago. Other driver in a compact doing almost 60mph (totaled) our 5th ave, bent bumper and exhaust and minor neck injury.
On another note, daughter was not hurt in the PT wreck.

I was thinking about buying one myself and took one for a test drive.I wound up buying the chevy hhr I got it for a better price with a better factory warrenty.I really like the car and it averages three mpg better than a friends pt cruiser. They are also a little bigger than the pt.The interior of the pt just seems really cheap compared to the hhr also. The hhr is also 5 star crash rated front and side impact.Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.

yes! My brother-in-law was the head engineer on the PT Cruiser. It's a great car for a young driver - very safe and cool to boot!

I own an 04 GT Turbo. I love it. I never have trouble with anything on it and my 2 toddlers are safe. Last week I brought home an 8-foot step ladder. It fit inside with the hatch closed.
It's a love it or hate it design. I used to hate them, then I drove one........

I rented one while in Arizona
Nice but small - OK on gas
Had a tough time with the hills in Northern Arizona
I think if you buy your teen a new car you are spoiling him - give him your minivan and buy something nicer for yourself!

Over all I have found Chryslers to be un-reliable but cheap. We have a Chrysler Town and Country mini-van. Its has never left us stranded anywhere but needed suspension work when it only had about 20,000 miles on it.

from my experience with my "purple piece of sh**" I would say look into another car! JMO
