Family of 10 on $150 a week?

My husband was watching a documentary about a family with 8 kids, 2 6-year-olds and 6 2-year-olds (plus mom and dad makes 10). She said she only spent an average of $150 on groceries per week and tried to buy all organic food. How can she manage that?

Update:

I don't know what network it was on.

We use coupons all the time and we are only 4 people. We definately don't make $150 a week!

Update 2:

My husband wasn't saying that's what we should spend (he's in charge of the shopping and coupons!) we were both just looking for ideas!

Somehow I don't believe that. We are a family of 4, and I have to spend more than that. I would have to see the documentary. What network was it on?

I heard about that documentary and I think it was either on Discovery Channel or the Health Channel. I didn't see it but there is no way she can mean ALL groceries - the 6 - 2 years olds alone would eat more than $150 a week in groceries. I have a family of 5 and the largest single bill for us is groceries (granted I buy meats, paper products, pet food and all at the grocery store and some people actually go to a butcher or a pet store for pet food (who has time to run to 4 different stores?). If your husband thinks you aren't doing enough, give him a list and send him to the store and give him a limit - he'll quickly see that food doesn't come cheap - and make him take AT LEAST 1 kid with him (one hungry kid!!!). Good luck and God Bless.

i think I saw that. It was one of those cheaper by the dozen, or something. They go to like a Sam's and buy bulk, it averages out to be about $150 a week. I think sometimes they spend more than that, but they are speaking about averages. Hope that helps. I know we spend a lot more than that and we are only 3.

The show is called Jon and Kate Plus 8 and it airs on TLC. Even though I saw part of it, I have no idea how it would be possible to spend that little each week!

she is probably getting things on sale and buying in bulk which is less expensive, and maybe buying food that will stretch., besides coupons.

Her children must be really skinny! Or they are just eating soup. I know that is pretty cheap to make

Maybe they grow most of their own food. That's the organic part. lol

Not possible, unless her children eat rice every single day

If it sounds to be good to be true, it usually is.
