What is the easiest and most effective way to get rid of head lice?

Chemicals may be harmful especially in children as they can be absorbed.The easiest ,safest,and cheapest is the following.Wash hair daily,then comb trough with a "nit comb" obtainable from all pharmacists.This must be done every day for 2 weeks to remove the new nits as they hatch-it takes commitment but it fulfills all your criteria and it does work.

Oh gosh. When I was younger I had head lice for THREE YEARS! IT WOULD NOT GO AWAY! Here's some stuff you need to know.

Okay first off, if you have stuffed animals bag them up. If you have pillows on your couch or something, bag those up too. Then vaccum ALL the carpets in your house twice. Vaccum your couches, and your mattress. Wash all of your sheets and pillow cases and all your clothes. Throw away all of your hair things. And to get rid of the actual lice...Okay DON"T use over the counter products. They only kill the bugs, they don't get rid of the nits. When I had lice I used this really good shampoo that was prescription. Ask your doctor for a RX product that gets rid of the nits also. When you get it, first wash your hair with regular shampoo and then blowdry it over a sink. All of the bugs will fall out because they dont like the heat. Next, get your hair damp and lather a very generous amount of the lice shampoo onto your head. Make sure you get around the nape of your neck and behind your ears good because that's where the bugs like to nest. Leave the shampoo in for whatever time it calls for. If it doesnt have a certain amount of time, then leave it in for about 15-30 minutes. Rinse it out very good. After, get a lice comb and comb out all the dead nits and dead bugs. After, you should buy a "Rid" kit. You can find it at super markets. Its OTC. It should come with a spray can. Take the spray can and spray all the rooms, beds, and couches in your house. Leave all the pillows and stuffed animals bagged up for a week. After, your lice should be gone. I did that, and I haven't had lice for three years now. Good Luck and I hope everything works out.

Lice are very contagious and should be treated immediately. Shampoos sold at most stores are very effective and should be used according to directions. You also have to treat bedding at the same time. DO NOT send a child to school/day care with lice -- call and tell them about the situation tho. Doctors generally don't want you to bring the child into their office either. Again call and get info. Teach children not to share combs and other hair things. (This is how my kids got lice when little)

Go to the pharmacy and get the special shampoo to get rid of head lice. Wash all the bedding that th infected person has come into contact with to make sure it doesn't come back. best to use the shampoo on anyone else living in the household.

Couple of options:

1. Remove all the lice and their eggs - requires shampoo and a nit comb.

Clean all bedding and towels and check no-one in your household is infected and thus able to re-infest you.

2. Shave your head.

You can use OTC lice medications, but a RX medication will be the best thing and work best -- just call your doctor 7 ask for something to be called into your pharmacy for headlice (tell them if your hair is long, short , thick, thin).

When I went to school we had NO SUCH problem as the kids we went to school with didnt have such things !!! I'd never even heard of them until I was a mother and my child had to go to school with illegal aliens who were "eatten up with them" !!! I remember the 1st time i saw my son scratching at his Beautiful, thick, blond hair!!! I pulled his hair apart so i could see his scalp & almost fainted!!! I grabbed him out of the grocery cart and ran from the store, taking him immediately to my father (a pharmacist) !!! He gave me the RX shampoo, but he kept getting them from the kids in his class!!! I was treating him every other week and beginning to worry about the damage these chemicals could be doing to his body (his organs!!!) !!! I finally cut off all his Beautiful Blond Hair and we put him in private school after that -- no more head lice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I still have to pay for illegals to attend school and for private school!!!

We as Americans should be able to send our kids to a clean school without our kids coming home with discusting bugs in their hair!!!! Why should we have to pay thousands in school taxes to educate foreigners ???????????? That money should go to grants for University for American kids !!!!!!!!!! Instead even if you have brains and ambition, if you cant afford college -- you get to work in a minimum wage job with no future your whole life because WE dont MAKE OUR GOVERNMENT do what WE WANT THEM TO DO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyone who passes the entrance exam to University should be able to attend -- FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oR WE WONT HAVE A COUNTRY TO WORRY ABOUT FOR MUCH LONGER !!!!!!!!!!!!

Start DEMANDING THAT NO ILLEGAL ALIENS be allowed to go to school in OUR COUNTRY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They shouldnt even be here if they're "illegal aliens" -- let alone go to school !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in the shops you can get a special mouse and lice combs and they are surpose to get ride of lice effectively in 30 mins.

Vaseline. smother the head with it, use a shower cap and sleep with it over night.

it may be hard to get the vaseline out. use a foaming face wash to get the grease out of the hair or a grease cutting dish washing soap.

probably the best...but least attractive is a shaved head....but most people dont want to shave their head.
