How much influence should great grandparents have in raising your children?
My son-in-law's grandmother wants to see his son every day and calls him several times every day. He's going to be 13 and she thinks she should be able to pick him up from school every day. He wants to walk home with his friends. She calls him "her sweet boy". He loves her, but having an 87 yo lady drive 50 miles to make sure he gets home safely has gotten to be really embarassing. Any suggestions?

Why is gr-grandma driving 50 miles for any reason? Has it occurred to ANY of you family members that maybe she has a touch of Alzheimers? She may not even realize that he's her great grandchild, but may be confusing him with another family member. Sounds to me like you guys have more problems than just her influence. An 87 year old woman doesn't need to be on the streets behind the wheel of any vehicle, let alone telling someone what to do with a 13 year old boy.
Get a grip folks.

I can only imagine the horror for the 13 year old when granny comes to pick him up. Just tell her that he is at the point in his life where he wants to spend time with his buddies. That is perfectly normal for a child his age. I would tell her that he's a young man, who needs time and space to himself right now
