I need help in determining how far along the Parvo virus is in my puppy.?

I have a 9 week black Lab that has Parvo. She has been acting fine until yesterday, and even then she wasn't acting that bad. She was still jumping around and playing. She has had bouts today of vomiting, more like a frothy substance. Her sides have shrunk into nothing in a few hours. She got up to walk for a few minutes and blood started pouring from her rear. The smell was awful. I can not get her into any of the 3 vets in my area, until after the 4th. They told me to come by first thing Thursday morning and they would look at her. They told me to give her Pedialyte until they can see her. I have been trying to pry her mouth open to get into her mouth, even just inserting a dropper beside her teeth, but she just lets it fall off to the side. With her losing a lot of blood within the past 4 hours, can anyone tell me if she will even make it to the vet on Thursday. I am afraid my kids will wake up and be the first to find her dead. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

I would call the vets office and there should be an emergency number on their recording and call it and let them know how bad your pup is bleeding.

Puppies are more frequently affected by Parvo then adults. Is the mother up to date on her shots? Is she displaying any parvo signs? It's recommended that breeding "females" are to have their shots again prior to being bred, this ensures a great start to immunity for the puppies. If thats the case, I would have the female looked over by a vet and if she's clear of the disease, chances are that the pups are too. I would also suggest find another place to house momma and the pups until enough time has passed. Parvo is passed from dog to dog through stools as well. Make sure that the yard is clean from that. Some signs to look out for are: Lethargy Vomiting Loss of appetite Diarrhea - usually bloody, and very foul-smelling (a characteristic odor, particular to Parvovirus infection) Fever

My dog was like that. My mom took the "wait and see" approach. Thankfully, she started being able to hold down water within a few hours of the diarrea, which is good (the water part). We were able to get her to the vet the next day. Have her sleep with you, so that if the dog dies, you can deal with it first and break the news to your kids at your discretion. Give her the option of water, hopefully she'll start to drink and keep it down. Once she can hold water down, move her to pedialyte. I can't believe a vet would make you wait several days. I guess you'll just have to sit up with her and wait it out.

I can't believe all the thumbs down on the best answers here! You need to get your puppy to the vet now. If you don,t you may very well have a sad situation tomorrow. There really is no other way to say that.

I cannot believe any vet would tell you to wait til Thursday til they could see your dog.. Your dog will very likely be dead by Thursday.. Did you tell them it was parvo?? Or did you just call to make an appointment?? Go to an emergency vet, or your dog will die.

There has to be a local vet that takes emergencies. Check the yellow pages & start calling. If your puppy is not treat now, it will die.
