If murder is a sin - is a person who is an executioner considered a sinner cause they also kill people?

If they aren't considered a sinner, why not? How is killing a person by lethal injection or other forms of professional execution different to a person taking a gun and killing someone on the street?

Is legal killing of someone who is deemed for whatever reason to warrant the death sentence allowed and ok in God's eye, or do they go to hell for killing others?

Surely the killing of another individual is wrong no matter if its legal or "in cold blood" - ultimately whats the difference between the 2 and does God separate them?

Update:

st_louis_cardsfan - it also says in Leviticus

"You may eat any kind of fish that has fins or scales, but anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales must not be eaten. Such creatures must be considered unclean."

Since most people seem to have ignored this section of Leviticus, what would make them take notice of the rest of it? Seems that a lot of what is said in that book is not relevant to todays society.

Murder is a sin but the executioner is not a sinner. If someone takes a gun and kills a person with it, then he has become a murderer in God's eyes. (Exodus 20:13) This same person when found guilty by law, will face the death penalty--execution. In this case, the executioner is not a murderer, because he is only carrying out God's command; a soul for a soul. (Deuteronomy 19:21).

The executioner will not be punished by God, if that is what you are trying to think about. Actually, the point is that the executioner is not a killer because he is just being obedient in fulfilling the legal and rightful penalty approved by God and the Country or State Law Code. There is another viewpoint which on the matter of conscience but God himself has ordered the destruction of wicked ones to be carried out very soon by his Son Jesus Christ.—Psalm 37:38; Proverbs 2:22.

You left out war. God, I am sure does not like to see anyone kill anyone. When an executioner throws the switch, or gives a lethal injection, it is done as a due process of law. The person performing the act is no more guilty than the Judge who gave the sentence or the Jury who convicted the individual. I cannot speak for God, but if I had to make an uneducated guess, I would think He would not consider what they do a sin, as they are fulfilling the law. Remember in Matthew 23: verses17-21 where He said" render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars and unto God the things that are God's" Jesus recognized Caesars authority, as well as God's authority.

Most Christians who support the death penalty believe that Romans 13: 1-3 justifies this. The right of a state to exact the ultimate penalty from someone for their crimes is a long-held belief of the Judeo-Christian ethical code on which most of our laws are based. The commandment in Hebrew actually translates to "You shall not commit murder," not "You shall not kill." Many Christians believe that these ARE separate things to God.

I personally am a Christian who does NOT support the death penalty. (Why do we kill people who kill people to show other people that killing people is wrong?) I support the "right" of the state to exact the death penalty from some criminals, but I don't believe that any state in the United States is implementing the death penalty with any amount of fairness, objectivity, or justice. And if a single innocent person is executed (which I believe has happened many times), the death penalty is no good. You can't recant the death penalty.

A person who took a neighbor hostage and locked them in a small cell behind bars for 30 years would be a kidnapper (amoung other crimes). But a warden or prison guard who does the same thing is not quilty of a crime.

The government as the power to do things that are not legal for an individual citizens. Such as the government can print money, the government can jail people, the government can fine people, the government can go to war, etc.

One of the powers given to the government is captial punishment. You will find many references to it in the Bible as far back as God's commandment to Noah that murderers where to be executed. It is a power given to the state to control people who would otherwise be dangerous to everyone around them.

Just as the state can hire a person to work in the mint making money, or hire a person to work in a prison locking up people, so the state can hire a person to perform an execution. It is not a crime, or a sin, which performed legally as part of a court order.

The Bible does prohibit murder. But not all "killings" are murder. It is not murder when a police officer has to shot a criminal to protect himself and others. It is not murder when a person has to shot someone who has broken into their home to rape or kill their family. It is not murder when a solider has to kill in time of war to defend his country. And it is not murder when a person has to conduct a lawful execution.

An executioner is an agent of a lawfully established government while a murderer is an individual who is breaking the law. Here's what the Bible says about governments in this regard.

Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.

Paul addresses this in Romans chapter 13. Study the whole chapter, Paul is talking about the powers that be or in modern language the governments whether Federal, state or local. he talks about them being ordained of God, and yes that even means the atheist governments and rulers.

Verse 4 states that they do not bear the sword for nothing. Thus God accepts the judgment of governments and gives them the right to pass judgment and carry out executions.

  • I think that the executioner and all the men responsible for ordering the killings are creating disharmony and bad karma, or sin as you called it.

I do not think there is any honor or difference between the two and your question about if God separates them? Well, I think that it is an impossible task to completely understand and comprehend God. It'd be like someone saying "infinity makes COMPLETE sense to me"

No, simply put, the person being put to death has committed a heinous act, held accountable- judged for said action, and sentenced. So the executioner is righteous.

God does not allow murder, but, in case it does happen

(& we know it does) that person is to be put to death.

In the Holy Scriptures the only time murder is not punishable, (besides the afore mentioned; which is not classified as murder) is when a person does break into ur home, and does intend to do harm to u & urs; and you do actually kill that person, there's no bloodguilt.

Last mth., my brother was killed in his own bedrm.,

when murdering thieves came into his home.

He saved the lives of the other ppl in his home @ the time.

@ his services he received a standing ovation, John 15:13.

    I am a true Christian.

And will have to answer to my God, Jehovah.

Never-the-less I was 'ELATED!!' and 'FULL of JOY'

When we found out my brother shot 1 of them.

Without him, shooting 1 of them,

we'd probably never find out who did this, to him.

It makes it easier to 'get' them. (get----find & convict)

    If the authorities find that they where there to rob him;

    its 2nd degree murder.

    If they were there to kill him;

    its 1st degree.

I hope they ROT in prison, I don't want them killed, and gain forgivness so readily-easily. I rather they live so that they can suffer in their sin, in prison without forgivness.

If it is found that they were there to kill him, they can get the death penalty or life w/out the possibilty of parole.

So, for anyone that doesn't believe in the death penalty...

    BOOOO...HISSSSSS on YOU! also,

Would you want them living on YOUR street?!

With the possibilty that they Murder someone You Love?!?!

Someone Who Loves You, Gives You Friendship and Loyalty.

edit: see what Robert R said...Amen.

NOPE! God made certain laws that if broken the death penalty was given. Try reading Leviticus and Deuteronemy some times.

an executioner is acting as an officer of the state, eliminating a threat to Society. much like a soldier in battle...all killing is not murder. i doubt very seriously that any executioner looks forward to his grim purpose; nor brags about his job over a cold brew with his buds.

a gunman on the street is that threat to Society. his motivations are the extreme of selfishness, his actions are the lowest depth of human depravity.

to equate the two takes either an incredible quantum-leap of logic, unbelievable intentional myopia, or the mental capacity of a cold dog turd.

    which is it?
