what is the seven year itch and is it real?
“When my husband and I were married seven years, we would always hear, ‘Uh oh, the seven year itch!’ or ‘Do you have the itch yet?’. My question is, what is the seven year itch and is it real?”

The seven-year itch is a bit of folk lore saying that after seven years of marriage, spouses begin to tire of one another. According to this lore, year seven is a dangerous time for the marriage, and marriages that are not going to last a long time are most likely to end after seven years.
In reality, people should perhaps talk about a two-year itch. One marriage in twelve ends in divorce after 24 months. This is the period in which the greatest number of divorces occur, and the rates of divorce fall off year by year after that.
You can follow links below for several articles about the length of marriage before divorce. But the good news is that by the time people were asking you and your husband about the itch, you were married long enough to be reasonably secure that you were in it for the long haul.
I don't have any more than anecdotal evidence, but I think that divorce becomes likeliest again when people are in their forties. This is a combination of men seeking younger partners (there are evolutionary forces at work in this) and of marriages that stayed together for the children coming apart as the children grow up.

A lot of people who posted before me were right, but the true origin of the term comes from the fact that according to the US Census Bureau, the majority of American divorces happen in the seventh year of marriage. Therefore, the phrase kind of means that cheating becomes a "scratch" that one has to "itch" after being in a marriage for so long. But just because this IS the average, doesn't mean it applies to everyone.
The Seven Year Itch is also the name of a play from the 1950s of the same name.

It is just a period of time when a married couple find that there is no more spark in their relation and started looking for excitement outside the home.
Though a myth, but I am sure you do find couples behaving so after a period of time. Maybe due to unfulfilled expectations in the relationship, or being together too long to know how to put the intimacy back into their relationship. Being unaware of such feelings may turn this 7-year itch into fact.

It has been scientifically proven that after seven years together you and your partner stop producing the same sexual chemicals for each other hence where this saying comes from. Do you have the itch yet means do you feel like having an affair yet. Personally I still fancy my husband loads and my tummy still flips over when I see him, we have been together for 11 years and we have always been faithful to each other.

After being married for seven years, one of the partners gets the wondering eye and starts to think about cheating. And it can be real and it happens for different reasons. I don't what the deal is with seven years. I think it can happen anytime after being together for a while.

seven year itch comes after seven years of marriage .Is it real but you know you can scratch it without going astray on each other. This itch only starts when the communication stops. It all depends on where and what kind of relationship you have at this point .Is it one of love, one of lust one of confidence or one of co-incidence.

I believe it is when you start questioning your marriage, and possibly make a big mistake by cheating. It is like a mid life crisis for a marriage. Don't buy into this crap if you ignore the old cliche it won't have any effect. Do just the opposite and use this time to revitalize your marriage.
