I remember RFK being shot, especially when it happened, in the first week of June, just when we were all starting to get rowdy because we were thinking we were going to be let out of school for summer...

I was in first grade. My teacher was a very beautiful and idealistic young woman, which was unusual for that neighborhood school that quickly turned into a Ghetto school shortly thereafter. She was so extremely distraught about it..., too, so much so that she actually told us all she could about him and what he was trying to do, even adding details she might have, in better times, thought we couldn't understand, but it made for an interesting story that we did follow...

I did somewhat realise there had been a president Kennedy whom we were already missing, so I wondered if we had actually been given a second chance at life..

We had, but some crazy Jordanian (or CIA/Mafia plot) took that all away from us, and put us back literally centuries... Me and those other kids sitting in our first grade classroom all had our bright futures whisked away in one afternoon.

Particularly, I remember having an Arithmetic workbook that school year, with some pretty hard addition and subtraction problems on the back cover. By the end of the school year I did understand how to solve the problems, but at the beginning of the year not understanding them yet, and wondering if by the end of the year I would, but what kind of person would I be by then, and how would things unfold?

Well I'll tell you: When the math problems still seemed impossible to me, I had a brilliant future in a great country... By the time I understood the sums by the end of the year, my real future was already taken away... That is how much I believed in RFK.

And, yes, we did get let out of school that week, but to a hectic, volatile summer that it sure turned out to be.... No other year on record holds a candle to1968, none quite the same.

Last night a particularly violent string of thunderstorms blasted their way through southern New England (especially here in Rhode Island). The rain hammered down like bullets, and the streets were soon flooded. I remember commenting to my wife about the loudness of the pouring rain. The frequent and brilliant lightning along with the exploding thunder were impressive. It was a classic storm to watch old reruns of the old Gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows".

I was in PE Class when the news came about the Kennedy Assassination. Everyone just started crying. It was a nation in mourning. So Sad. I remember news of Elvis, Jackson's, Supremes and etc. That just came to mind but if I wait long enough I will probably think of something else. Mmm

I remember the hostages being freed from Iran. Was that '80 or '81?

I *vaguely* remember seeing Star Wars in the theater. I was three at the time.

    When Reagan got shot.

I remember the SNL skit that poked fun of the incessant tv coverage--CLASSIC!

I also remember when the Iranians stormed our embassy and held the Americans hostage for what seemed like forever.

I remember sitting on the couch between my Grandparents watching the Vietnam War on TV. My Grandparents had 2 sons over there fighting, and it was their nightly vigil to watch the news.

    Peace.

Man, you're making me feel old at 48.

First recollection was JFK's funeral: I was 5, and couldn't understand why all the TV stations had the same thing on.
