    A Few Reasons Why I Am A Marine*

    Come On You Sons Of Bitches !!

    1) Best haircut

    Hands down! You can't have a bad hair day with a high and tight. And you spend less on shampoo.

    2) Dress blues

    They're the coolest uniforms worldwide.

    3) Bloused trousers

    Another distinctive Marine look that sets the proudest service members apart.

    4) The rest of the Marine sea bag

    From the Alphas to camouflage utilities, uniforms just look better on a Marine than any other service member.

    5) Marines don't wear dungarees

    6) Most respect I

    When the Marines pulled out of Haiti and Somalia, the media reported the U.S. military was pulling

    out -- as if tens of thousands of Army troops weren't still in the country. Now that's respect.

    7) Most respect II

    When the Corps came back to Haiti after 60 years, an old man on the Cap-Haitian beach said

    "Welcome back!''

    8) Toughest mascot

    The Marine Corps' is a bull dog. The Navy's: a goat.

    9) Esprit de Corps

    Even if you can't spell it or pronounce it, the Marine Corps has it in spades. One example: When sailors get tattoos, they do it to express their individuality, and their choices range from Betty Bop and Mickey Mouse to raging sea serpents. When Marines get tattoos, they do it to express their solidarity, and choose bull dogs, "Death Before Dishonor,'' and "USMC.".''

    10) Best war monument

    Iwo Jima

    11) The Marines invade

    The Army has to do the occupying.

    12) The silent drill platoon

    Just watching them ply their trade makes you want to wear dress blues.

    13) Status

    Sailors live and work on ships. Marines go for cruises -- then hit the shore.

    14) Best fast attack vehicles

    LAVs.

    15) Best fighting knife

    Ka-Bar.

    16) Best duty assignments

    Okinawa, Kaneohe Bay, Camp Pendleton, Diego Garcia, Moscow, North Carolina. Plus any ship at sea.

    17) Worst duty assignments

    Okinawa, Kaneohe Bay, Camp Pendleton, Diego Garcia, Moscow, North Carolina. Plus any ship at sea.

    18) Most exotic duty assignments

    Kuala Lumpur, The White House.

    19) Best phone number

    Call 1-800-MARINES and you've got The Corps. And if you're a civilian with the mettle to be a Marine,a recruiter there will be happy to sign you up.

    20) Toughest DIs

    They're so tough that when the Navy wants to train its officers, who do they call? 1-800-MARINES.

    21) Toughest boot camp

    When San Diego was still training Navy recruits, legend has it that recruits occasionally would jump the fence and accidentally land in Marine boot camp. The Marines would keep them a couple of days, and when the recruits were sent back, they were ready to be sailors!

    22) Best motivational cry

    Ooh-rah!

    23) Best emblem

    Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

    24) Best campaign covers

    The Smokey Bear hat.

    25) Separate heads for enlisted and officers

    Everywhere else, officers and enlisted use the same pot.

    26) The only official, congressionally sanctioned hymn for any of the services

    "The Marines' Hymn.''

    From the Halls of Montezuma

    To the Shores of Tripoli;

    We fight our country's battles

    In the air, on land and sea;

    First to fight for right and freedom

    And to keep our honor clean;

    We are proud to claim the title of

    United States Marine.

    Our flag's unfurled to every breeze

    From dawn to setting sun;

    We have fought in every clime and place

    Where we could take a gun;

    In the snow of far off northern lands

    And in sunny tropic scenes;

    You will find us always on the job --

    United States Marines.

    Here's health to you and to our Corps

    Which we are proud to serve;

    In many a strife we've fought for life

    And never lost our nerve;

    If the Army and the Navy

    Ever look on Heaven's scenes,

    They will find the streets are guarded by

    United States Marines!!! Ooh-Rah.''

    27) Best slogan I

    "Once a Marine, always a Marine''

    28) Best slogan II

    "Tell that to the Marines''

    29) Best slogan III

    "Send in the Marines.''

    33) Most remarkable airplane

    The Harrier. No other service's jets can take off and land on a dime.

    34) Most dangerous airplane

    Discipline, courage, honor, commitment, valor, patriotism, military virtue.........BELOW ME IS A COWARD

    All military service is a good idea.

    I was in the military for 8 years and If I wasn't injured I would still be in.

    I have traveled halfway world and met some of the greatest people currently living and have had more experiance than you will ever get in a 2 or 3 lifetimes without military service or a large trust fund.

    Not sure about the Marines( My *** Rides In Navy Equipment)

    Sorry devils dogs, this squid couldn't resist.

    *LOL* Lava took 'em all... except for the Dress Blues one.. and Marine got that one.. Gotta love our resident Marines...

    If either of ya'll are ever in the SFO area and need a hot, a cot, or a cold one... you know who to call, right?

    I have just one to add to the list... the MARINE CORPS FAMILY is the best there is... My son knows that I have Marine Parent connections all over the US.. if he's ever stuck (like he was last year with a blown transmission in the middle of nowhere and with no money...) he just has to give me a call and an hour later I'll have another Marine Parent riding to the rescue.. and we know we'd each do the same thing for any of our Marines!!

    Hello Max. I don't think that getting a college education paid for is a bad idea. I think that someone with a strong sense of patriotism and self sacrifice for his country and fellow Americans, would be willing to join and serve his country. Now I'm not saying that's why everyone joins but that's a good reason. Here is some more reasons: Life career, full retirement after 20 years, full health care for life, you would be in the best shape you have ever been in, you would know self defence and be able to shoot a wide variety of weapons. You would also travel the world.

    Because you want to be a part of the world's best known elite force and you will never settle for second-best.

    Quoting President Reagan; "Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have made a difference in the world... Marines don't have that problem."

    When you complete USMC bootcamp and your tour of duty and then decide to join any of the other American military forces, you DO NOT have to go through their bootcamp and you gain one rank when joining.

    You can also ask members of the U.S. Army, "Why didn't you join the Marines?" and if they are being honest with you, they will tell you, "Because they're too hard!".

    Also, when EVER since 1775 has our country sent ANY other force into battle first?

    Just ask yourself, when the sh*t hits the fan ANYWHERE in the world, are you going to send in your second best?

    Proove me wrong!

    Standing-by to be called into "THIS ONE".

    I was in the same situation as you; minus the lying. I was able to join the Army after 2 yrs with an RE3 code and Honorable Discharge with a waiver, now im out of the Army after 7 years of honorable service. If the Army does take you, you will not be considered prior service and have to complete training as an IET soldier.

    Marines are usually the first in line at war. To me if I was to join any forces I would be in the Marines. If I didn't want to be the first to defend my country, why sense even join the military? They have the best training as well. Marines also have air, ground, and some water. Unlike the others whom just specialize in just one.

    I personally don't like to take orders like a robot, therefore I will never join any military force if I didn't have too. But if I got drafted I would rather be a marine.

    If you are going to join to fight, the Marines is the place to do it. A higher percentage of Marines actually fight as compared to the other branches of the military.

    If you want to carry a rifle and fight on the ground, the Marines have a higher standard to get in and are held to a higher standard to stay in. (The US Army at one time had to dumb down their training manuals into a "comic book" format because their troops were pretty low in intelligence.)

    Also, once a Marine, always a Marine.

    In the spirit of the Dawg himself, allow me to say:

    SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE!

    The question was good reasons and USMC.

    It had nothing to do with interservice rivalry and you can't even spell IED.

    And allow me to say, as a soldier, the Air Force does nothing like a Marine, nor like a soldier. There is no infantry in AF. The post office is more militant than the Chair Force.
