The traditional colors are black and green. The black board is actually black but the chemicals used to protect it make it appear to be grey. Although now days they can be all different colors depepending on the providr, and the customer.
Now just out of my opinion, if someone was talking about a chalk board I would picture it in my mind to be black/grey, just because growing up in school most were black/grey, very few was green. Until I got to high school, then they was all replaced with dry erase boards.

well, you're both right...
They do make them both way, But Now they are Black, in new schools, they use a midnight black. They turn grey after first use, and never seem to turn back to black, unless you clean it with intense care.
Growing up, all of my classrooms, had a pretty dark green chalkboard.
Thats like asking someone from NY when you live in CT, what colors are squirells, because they are black, or Brown in NY, and in connecticut, they are Grey or Grey and white

There is the old blackboard color...
there is the old blackboard that had to be chalked to a dark gray color
and there is the greenboard that had to be chalked to a faded green color...only way to keep the chalk from leaving perm marks in the original paint job.
There is also "marker" boards that are popular now with dry erase markers...

I've seen both dark grey and green chalkboards.
I prefer dark grey, because it's easier to see for me.

dark grey. i know you already know but it could be both. if you would want to prove him wrong or right or something then look up the very first chalkboard and then see. you know the original chalkboard.

They were both. Black was usually found in the older schools (it seemed that way to me in my area) and the green came later.
But forget the color of chalkboards. How about the kid who got to bang the erasers out on the fire escape? Hated those teacher's pets! Yet...they always fondly and without question...did it.
Sorry....I digress. Thanks for the memories though. Nice question. Made me think.

it will probably be a green board since the texture of the board relies on the material chalk. It also looks clearly if you write on a green board rather than a grey board..

I've seen both black and green. I liked the black ones better because it was easier to see.
