Pathetic they are too busy teaching about other bl*** cultures it amazes me some of the questions and answers on here when it comes to WW2 how many people dnont know a thing about it. If it wasn't for all the soldiers and Winston who fought in the war we might not be free today!!

    Edit: well said Wittyweasel!!

The old ones have to go if the new ones like Tony Blair are to find a place. But remember, education does not end with school. We must encourage our children to visit libraries. That is the only way to get unbiased information of our own history; not just reading text books.

Gawden Brahan, scotch git, don't like Winston because Winston is famous and Brahan is not. How many Americans ever heard of Brahan? Not many. How many Americans heard of Winston? Lots. See wot I mean? Jealousy.

Brahan is dead-pan-boring. Winston was a lot of fun and made amusing speeches and great one-liners like when Hitler sent the Luftwaffe to bomb London, Winston stood up in the House of Commons and told Hitler, "you do your worst and we'll do our best". Great stuff.

Brahn is all mumble and bad breath.

Don't feel so alone-- Hands across the pond sort-of-thing-- Abraham Lincoln is being phased out over here too.

The ghost of the Third Communist International appears to have an amazingly long reach through time and space.

They did not work in vain. Neither did Chinese Gordon. Let's remind ourselves of our history and heritage.

Is it because he smoked cigars and they don't want kids to copy him? Quite why people want to edit history I don't know. If you are going to learn a topic you may as well learn the names of the people involved. Then again with all the life skills and money management they are planning to teach I guess that they don't have time to cover things such as history or politics. Thank god for the ever failing education system.

No Nelson, Wellington, Richard the Lionheart, Henry V, Sir Francis Drake, Duke of Malborough, Gordon of Khartoum, Clive of India, Roberts of Africa, Lord Kitchener et al have these heroes gone as well, we are losing our history to a bunch of wooly jumpered namby pamby's

Actually he was removed a long time ago because I don't remember reading about him in High School. I know more about him from the History channel than any textbook.

I believe churchill does have a place in history.

He was one of the worlds greatest murderers and deserves to be recognised as such.

Many millions of servicemen died as a result of churchills whims, ordering needless attacks which had no bearing on the outcome of the war.

His decision to bomb Dresden was based on research that looked for a German town that would burn better than any other.

Dresden was chosen as such a town. It was full of civilians and wounded soldiers when it was bombed, it was of no strategic value and churchill should have stood trial for his actions.

Instead, millions in lottery money was spent buying the churchill papers at auction. For what purpose?

So to answer your question, yes this man (who had a destroyer parked up the Bristol channel ready to whisk him out of the country if invaded) should be in the history lessons, but not for the reasons you think.

How can I get a thumbs down, these are historical facts you potatoe

Because the present British government detests anyone who stands as a symbol of determination, courage and pride in their British heritage and who, by contrast, shows them up for what they are . . . a toadying herd of spineless, corrupt politicos more interested in padding their own pockets than protecting the British people.

Londoners today prefer a traitor and supporter of terrorism like "Red" Ken Livingstone rather than a tried-and-true patriot like Churchill.

May God have mercy on England . . . .

I'm 21 and I did not learn a single thing about this man whilst I was at school. So it can't be a new thing? I must say, Stephen H (above) very interesting what you said.
