Are you a blind follower?

Ok if you didn't know, I'm a huge Dale Jr and Jeff Gordon fan. I feel I'm as loyal as they come. But here's what I don't get, how can fans be so blind when their driver does wrong?

I mean when the whole bracket thing came out with Dale's car, I accepted the crime as well as the punishment, same thing with Jeff and Jimmy. If you ask if Jeff is a whiner I'm first in line to say Yes he is!, Is Dale Jr the sharpest tool in the shed? maybe not, but I like his good ol boy attitude. My point is I love these guys, faults and all and I just don't understand how other fans can't see their drivers for who they are too.

Someone posted about how Tony Stewert came off as an A Hole in his interview during qualyfing, and all the Stewert fans (Who probably didn't even see the interview) immediately start making excuses for his bad behavior. Geeze I'd have more respect for you as fans if you could just say, "Yeah he sounded rude, but that's my boy"

your thoughts?

Update:

And I'm not just talking about Stewert fans, I've seen fans of Gordon, Jr, Bush etc do the same thing. Why the blind adoration?

Update 2:

LMAO Matt!!! I hear ya, but if you read the post on Stewert you can tell some of his fans didn't even see the interview, so how the heck could they know why we were frustrated!

Update 3:

Great Answer Nandina!!

Thanks for the honesty ILdirtracer2

    I must agree.

I'm a huuuge Gordon fan and freely admit to him being a whiner, sorta hard not to ;) (well, he used to be,...not so much anymore)

But I think too many fans are defensive to the point of actually turning a blind the truth to make their driver look good...what the heck for? Makes no sense!

I taped qualifying yesterday and watched it last night. I had answered a question about the Smoke/Denny deal before I had watched the interviews and I actually defended him some. It's unfair to judge ANY drivers by their comments right when they hop out of a wrecked or broken car. They are such fierce competitors, it's hard to be calm and collected when your adrenaline and anger are jacked up and sombody shoves a microphone in your face. However, you shouldn't throw your teammate under the bus regardless of the circumstances. They were both so short with their interviews that you could tell it is still a very big issue with them. Unfortunately most of us see our drivers as we want to and it's hard to be objective. I end up defending Jimmie and HMS in general constantly. At some point you have to realize that people will judge and hate regardless of the circumstances because of driver or team loyalty. I just wish some posters could be a little more objective when they are ripping on others. Lord knows ALL NASCAR FANS live in glass houses. It's one thing to defend your driver but that shouldn't stop you from seeing them for how they really are. With that said, GO JIMMIE (you non cheating, never do anything wrong, greatest driver ever that doesn't EVER get any breaks)!!! Woohoo, Chicagoland!!!

I'm a huge Junior, Smoke & Gordon fan..followed by the rest of the Chevy drivers...(with the exception of Kyle Busch).

I don't feel I'm a blind follower..(at times I may be)..but as a rule..I can see when my favorite is in the wrong..admit it..and then go on suporting him.

Personally, I honestly haven't found much fault in Junior...

(this may be where the blind follower fits) LOL

Now...Gordon..yeah he used to whine a lot..he even admitted that on Wind Tunnel..but he's gotten a lot better about it.

And now Smoke..it's like the quote David B used on another post..and I'm going to use it now..."the mouth revs before the brain is put in gear" and he's a hot head..he's admited that.

He has his faults..but..he's one of my favorites and I support him. What I'm saying is...Ya take the bad with the good when you support your driver 100% and you should be able to admit when your driver is in the wrong ..hope he learns from it and doesn't make the same mistake again.

I do have my least favorite drivers..(the Busch Brothers) but I don't think I say anything that would be considered 'bashing'.

My problem with them is ..attitude and imaturity...

Now..that's 'my story and I'm stickin to it'!

    Boogity Boogity Boogity..

    Let's Go Racin..Chevy Racin!

I must admit Shorty, I'm guilty of doing that myself. I did say, though, that if NASCAR felt Jeff and Jimmie were indeed in the wrong, that they should receive the same penalty as Jr.! And Ok, so I'll go ahead and admit, Jeff HAS whined (maybe just once lol) in the past, but I believe he's getting a lot better about it. I think, though, it just stems from a defensive instinct. We feel our driver isn't here to stick up for himself, so here we come with swords drawn and on galloping horses with flaming nostrils to defend them.

Yes, I just looked at it. True, true.

  • I'm a Stewart fan, but I try not to be barn-blind. I know he has issues.

But I also think the Stewart Haters are just as guilty of being completely biased in the other direction, where when he DOES do something right, they find excuses as to why he doesn't deserve the credit.

That goes all the way around, by the way - ALL drivers have folks who are Apologists or Haters, who are too busy looking only at one side of the equation that they're blind to the realities that drivers are just human. They have good sides and bad sides, good days and bad days, good habits and bad habits.

I probably come across like that. I think it's because there are so many Tony bashers on here that I feel like I need to constantly defend him. I'm not blind to his faults though. When he says or does something I don't agree with, I am the first to say that he was in the wrong.

And I did see the interview by the way.

I guess some of these "fans" take the root word to heart...and that word is "fanatic." Fanatics are, by defination, usually blind to other points-of-view.

For the most part, I root for the underdogs (Elliott, Schrader, K Wallace) but I also root for some of the big names, like Roush/Fenway, and RYR. Most of the underdogs are too wrapped up in trying to get in a race legally so they will not fall out of the top 35. Mikey is the exception, but I think he REALLY learned his lesson.......

Heck...for the most part...I make jokes about my own favorite drivers. When one of them misses a race....I say "Oh well, We'll be back next week." I don't go around crying "FOUL," "DISCRIMINATION," or "CONSPIRACY."

I bet even Ken Schrader would give that answer "1 & 1/2 thumbs up"!!!!

I don't think so. If someone gets caught bending the rules, no matter whether it's my driver or not, I just try to accept it and go with the flow. Being upset or whining about it isn't going to sway Nascar. If my guy wins, I'm glad... if he screws up, I'll admit it and just move along.

follow what???? i am a blind leader myself...ok and even though i should probably just disagree with u to make a statement i can not...

and i haev to say regarding tony stewart...heck his attitude (now that i have gotten used to it) is to me part of his charm..and i think he brings a little more of the real nascar back to the track

i get fired up when the "voices" of nascar start spinning their stories about the roots of nascar and how much they focus on it starting on the beaches of daytona...

    NEWSFLASH ....

it started running moonshine a very country thing by very country people enjoyed by all kinds of people...go ask a petty where it started ...they aint gonna say on a beach....u cant run from no revenuer on no beach

when my first love harry retired i focused more on terry then (yes we r on a first name basis...ok well in my head anyway) well my b/f adores dale sr... so when sr got so very confused and sent my terry weeeeeeeeee around i was very very upset...ok was kewl the other time when he still won ...going backwards cross the line....but the time sr took him bout out..i was not a happy mouse...so my bud calls and was nothing but apologies, but she is the first to acknowledge that it was that attitude that made her so devout...

and i reckon that once i realized that smoke was not really a doodie i mean noone can really take him personally as he pretty much stays consistant with his tudes....well i just remembered when nascar was not quite so regulated...and no i have never been one to gawk at a fight...those track rivalries of real nascar made it more entertaining....

and if u wanna make excuses..find another driver....

me i like the strong silent type it seems although Jr well he just kindly fits every catergory....

but we still gotta have our bad boys to spice it up...i was not a huge sr fan but i respected the man tremendously tude and all and i admired his tenacity (one of them there college words) and it was all about the racing

ok babble enough but have i mentioned i love nascar.....................................

    k going left now

Having a favorite driver is a little like a brother, I can make fun of him,but you better watch it.If your a true fan then I can accept you talking bad about my driver (#24).But if it's he's gay or something silly, then I don't listen.Does my driver mess up? sure he does, but with all the people so willing to point it out for you, then sticking up for him seems like the right thing to do.Yes,Jeff has made mistakes some big some not so big.But again with so many people ready to take the slightest lil thing and turn it into something it isn't, that as a fan I have to go to bat for my driver. Its like family they may be dead wrong, but I'm going to fight for them anyway.
