How can I cutback on soda?

I know it's bad for you, so please don't give me a lesson on how bad it is, like smoking (which luckily i don't do). I'm really trying to cut down, but i feel like I just can't. I've just been waaaay too addicted to caffeine & sugar for too many years. It didn't bother me that much before (& I even drank it less), but now I'm even more addicted to it since I know I need to cut it out. On average, I drink about 1 can or bottle of something a day (it HAS to have caffeine, & NO diet soda, I hate it), & i try to have a day off here & there, like once a week. I know that's not enough & I need to just cut it out, but please, that's just impossible because my brain/body is just too used to the caffeine, & I feel too tired & miserable to function without it (or, you know, my body thinks it does)!! So how do I go about this? Does anyone have any success stories similar to my own situation? If you do, I'd LOVE to hear it, & any other sensible tips, other than just "simply" stopping!

I was addicted too at one stage, and now my teeth feel like they are wearing wool jumpers if I try to drink soda now.. I relised that I was mainly addicted to the fizzyness of the drink, so started to buy Soda water and put some diet cordial with it.. yummy and fizzy and slowly made the mix weaker and weaker till i didnt need the sweetness with the soda water.. I will take a few weeks regardless to get over the sugar and caffeine addiction.. I got a bad headache every day at 3pm for a few weeks when I tried to stop, have a green tea when you get a headache, as this still has caffeine but alot less than soda.. Best of Luck and Stay Strong Willed.. I know how hard it can be to give up soft drinks!!

I went through this and he's what I did.

I went to a health store and bought a liquid stevia supplement. Some brands sell them in flavors. I like grape.

Then I took a 32 oz Nalgene bottle. I put in 10 drops of the Stevia supplement and fill the rest with water. I drink two of these a day. I get a nice little grape flavor, it's 100% natural and sugar free.

One can of soda a day is not bad at all. (I thought you were drinking a 12-pack or so.)

It's really not going to hurt you. A LOT of people drink coffee and have to have it every morning (like ME...lol) and one cup of coffee is fine. It's not going to hurt you, even if you use sugar in it and cream. One is fine. So is one soda.

So you need to relax. When you are really ready to give it up, you will be able to. You aren't ready yet.

  • I HATED diet soda too when I first started drinking it but believe me after about a week you will ged used to it and it will start tasting normal. Also drink lots of water & diet V8 fruit juice it tastes really good has zero calories and no sugar.

Remember taking in sugar is storing FAT in your body.

    Good Luck and God Bless

Yeah. My older sister had the same problem...She started drinking coffee. But it turns out she was allergic to it. So she had like no where else to go or do! So she moved back in with me and my parents. My mom went to her house and found like TONS AND TONS of coke cans/bottles and empty ones. So she like emptied out her apartment! And my mom wouldn't let her go out with out me/mom/dad...And it made her a bit crazy and wacko at first but she got used to it. And she lost like about 25 pounds! No she is like "ewww!!!! I HATE sugar and sweets!" And yeah. We found out that if she kept doing that for one more year she could have gotten a heart attack! So we were really thankful!!!
