How to tell a friend...?

I had a group of guys over my house last weekend to play some low-stakes poker. We had one dollar buy-ins, so that nobody would be losing their paycheck... At max, they'd lose four or five bucks.

At any rate, one of my 'friends' never pays attention, and makes every one of his turns a 5-minute dilemma. After playing for about 45 minutes, he says he's not playing anymore. At this point, he's up three dollars. So he sits there and watches the rest of us play for another hour and a half! Meanwhile, some of us are out a few bucks and looking to try to get our money back, but we can't because this guy isn't playing. How do I tell this guy that we're there to play cards for fun, and to stop being a cheap a**hole and worrying about his money all the time?

we play poker alot too - and there is always one like that in a crowd it seems. next time do not invite him - if he shows up don't let him play, if he wants to know why then tell him. also make house rules, that no one quits unless they are busted - we play usually until one person has won all the money. and we play low stakes for fun too. we all bring 10 bucks. and can only bet up to 1.00 a hand total. so it is fun and everyone plays. at the end of the night, someone has 50 or 60 bucks. and we all enjoyed our selves - here is our rule though - the winner, has to bring drinks & munchies the next time. or puts $30 bucks toward the house "fund for munchies" before he leaves.

Like I said we do it for fun - not for the $$.

Maybe he doesn't know how to play? Have you asked him in private why he does this?

Maybe you should just spell it out like "hey man, we are here to have some fun but you are being a wet blanket. What's up? You want some help?"

    Make up "house rules"

You can't pull out and stop playing, unless in the hole and leaving.

If that dosen't stop him, play for something other than money.

Like who has to bring the beer & chips next time.

Tell him to get off his ***, play, and quit being such a baby cause he doesn't wanna lose a few bucks!
