My room smells. What have you used to get rid of smell, musty smells too?

My room smells musty and just nasty. Once you are in the room it smells fine, but right when you open the door it hits you pretty bad. I use several air fresheners and those don't work. I've used a whole bottle of fabric freshener febreeze and now a whole bottle of arm and hammer spray. What can I do? I like my room to smell good even though I'm a guy. I mean I'm really clean, I have to be, I'm in the military. I haven't used carpet poweder yet cuz it didn't work last time I used it a few years ago. Does oust or anything work?

Update:

It's 100 degrees outside and bugs will get in even with the screen.

I can't have candles, against the rules.

Update 2:

Well thx guys I'll try some of this stuff. I have nothing laying around that smells. I put dirty clothes in the closet and wash them often. All my linens are cleaned often. Could be the drapes...ugly brown too. Also could be crap in the pipes of the sink now that I think about it....I really think it's the carpet though. I'll try most of these tips thx guys!

Update 3:

Vinegar?! Seriously? I'll definitely try this as well!!!

Have you tried opening the window during the day? Maybe your room just needs to be aired out. Also try using a fan while your window is open, that way the fan will blow out the stale air. I've done it before, works wonders.

Here's an inexpensive and fragrance free solution that is small but really works fantastic. It is a natural fragrance free carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put a couple around your room. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and Internet at customerservice@innofresh.com.

    Definitely worth trying

Get the fabreeze air effects that plug into the wall. They have one that is supposed to not only make the room smell good but attack bacteria, its Orange. My sons room always smelled like a foot, and that's what I put in there it works good. Also maybe smell the carpet if you have any, if so may consider steam cleaning it. Carpet can get musty and even mold smell. Don't use the powder carpet stuff, all it does is sink down into the rug and create dust type allergies. Good luck and nothing wrong with being a clean guy

Open all the windows to your room for at least a few hours. Go through everything and make sure there's not something you forgot about waiting to surprise you. Instead of using carpet deodorizer try using baking soda. Put it down and let it rest for an hour then vacuum it up. Also use this on fabric couches and chairs. Launder any curtains or drapes in your room. If none of this works you might have to consider having the carpet cleaned professionally or replacing it if it's worth while.

I live in an old wooden house that has been flooded twice. The damp smell was a problem ever since. I've been using Damp Rid. It's a two part container. The top holds beads that capture water from the air and the moisture drains into the bottom container. You empty the liquid out of the bottom and refill the top with more beads as needed. You can buy them at most drug stores and at Walmart.

Definately keep your bedsheets changed. My roommate doesn't and I can always tell. Good ventilation is also key. I know that in some climates this is difficult. I live in the desert and have 112 plus degrees right now. But I use the ceiling fans when I am home. Also...do not use fabric softeners when washing your towels. Yeah, they may smell good, but fabric softeners hold in mold and odors. Check out "The Queen of Clean". Hopefully you don't smoke, as that is an obvoius answer in itself. You can't hide that smell.Good luck!!!

Rent yourself a Rug Doctor. Carpet is a sponge for Odor, you may have to use some ****&Span and wash the walls down or paint. Check the curtains, Make sure it isn't something outside like damp soil or lint from a clothes dryer blowing Odor back through your doors and windows.

I suggest that you make sure the odor is not from mold.. how is your health?.. mold and mildew smell musty.. check to see if there are any damp areas that mold could have started to grow.. also look under your bed.. someone could have played a practical joke on you...
