Buying a new wedding band for my husband?
My husband is currently finishing up his tour in Iraq. I've been wanting to get him a new wedding band and have it engraved inside with "My hero" or something similiar to that and surprise him with it our first night back together.
I will be seeing him in about 3 weeks. My question is since I don't know his exact ring size would it be alright to buy it anyway?
I called a jeweler in town and she said she thinks it would be alright. But, I wanted to get more insight from you guys.
Also, does anyone know the standard size a men's ring comes in at the store because I want to get it one size up from that. Since it's 8:20am here - I cannot call and get details from a jeweler. I'm totally anxious to make a purchase SOON, please help!!
Thanks a bunch. :o)
swtlilblonde31: Unfortunantely, Iraq has put a HUGE wear and tear on his ring. When I seen him for 2 weeks of R&R in January - the ring looked horrible. :( I bought the ring almost 5 years ago and it's not the best quality. We planned on upgrading both of our rings in the future b/c our financial status has definitely changed since before we bought the first rings.
It's time for a new ring. And I wanted it to be a definite surprise for when he got home.
bluebird: I know he probably could "care less" about a ring and much rather just see me but it will be perfect timing to surprise him then. But maybe you're right - I should wait. The jeweler lady yesterday told me that it wouldn't change the engraving!? I wonder why she would say that?!
Brandy <brandywine_1: I bought his ring 5 years ago at Zales Jewelery at the mall. At the time, we didn't have the ring sized because it fit him just right. Now his poor fingers have swelled up a lot since being in Iraq - 110 degree heat. I know I should remember his ring size but honestly it's not something I think about everyday! I'm going to try and call them this morning when they open. Thanks for you advice! :)

I think it's a nice guester what you are doing, don't listen to the naysayers. They are either miserable in their marriages (and want everyone else to be also) or they are single and wish they had a spouse. Now, where did you get his first ring? Did you order online or use your credit card? The reason I'm asking is because they would have a record of the ring you bought and it would most likely tell the size of the ring. I'm surprised you don't remember his ring size, but I guess it has been 5 years. I just got married myself in May and I actually took my husband with me to pick his band and I remember the ring size, but even if I didn't, it's on the receipt. If you just can't remember, and your husband is of 'average' size, then most likely you want to get a size 9. My husband is a huge man (6' 4", 280lbs, solid) and his ring size is 11.5, so I would imagine that 9 would be 'average'. Good luck and have fun when he gets home!

Irene's husband is a physician at a well being midsection for crying out loud! he's not a mechanic, machinist or a/c tech the place his ring would desire to get caught on something and cut back his finger off! And why a perplexing medal? I basically have a suspicious suggestions!@# and of direction, some adult men do not placed on their wedding ceremony bands. He additionally could placed on gloves while with a affected person...who's accustomed to why he would not placed on it. possibly he sense that a diamond ring is basically too flashy or something...i'm attempting to grant him the earnings of the doubt. wager that I would desire to easily forget that he's likewise surrounded by different Dr's of the alternative intercourse besides as nurses. yet, the respond on your question, i think of you will desire to provide a sparkling wedding ceremony ring at each time; anniversary, valentines, birthday, Christmas...on each and every occasion.

If your husband is like mine he will not want a new ring, he has a ring right? Why not take the one he has to have it engraved? When he gets back tell him your idea and go to the jewler together and have the engraving done. My husband has sentimental value in his ring...I was going to buy him a better one at one point but he flipped out so I think I would ask first.

That is a really sweet idea.
Maybe try going to where you bought your wedding bands and see if they still have the order on file, they might have your husband's ring size. Good Luck! :)

Most normal sized guys are anywhere from a 10 to a 12. I happen to have a slightly used platinum band leftover from a marriage experiment. ;)
This is a very sweet gesture on your part. Good luck.

Honey, trust me, wait until you know his size, because it will change the engraving. He isn't going to care about a ring as soon as he sees you. That will be all he wants.
Please tell him thank you for protecting us and keeping us FREE.
God Bless you and Keep you Both. Blue
