Did you know most people don't understand why Jesus was mad at the money changers?

It is a common misconception that when Jesus overturned the table of the money changers in the temple He was angry that they were selling sacrifices for profit. In fact, this is not the reason He was angry. If people took the time to understand how things were done in those days they would know that it was common practice to sell animals for the sacrifices that were made in the temple. Jesus didn't have a problem with that. He was angry because the area that the moneychangers were occupying was the only area of the temple that Gentiles were allowed to worship....Jesus wanted everyone to be able to enter the temple...not just Jews. This is another example of how Jesus loved EVERYONE, not just the Jews.

Update:

God does not hate the Jews

Update 2:

coffee pot 12- you have missed the point.. that is the way things were done in those days. there was a small section reserved for Gentiles who worshipped God to come and worship....the money changers were encroaching on that space. I wasn't trying to attract insults. why are people so intolerant here?

What is the source of your information? You sound very certain.

    John 2:13-16

And the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers seated. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the moneychangers, and overturned their tables; and to those who were selling the doves He said, "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a house of merchandise."

Funny, he didn't say, "Stop selling things in the Gentiles bleachers. They need seats too. Get a vendor's license."

And neither do you.....The Temple is a Holy place.....not a market place....

the money changers and sellers of sacrificial animals did not need and should not have been allowed within the Temple walls...

The Pharisees and the Sadducee's were the white washed tombs full of moldering bones.....

they were concerned with the Temple $$ not the Temple "Holy"....

That which is HOLY cannot be defiled by that which is unclean. the sin of the money changers was to defile the temple with their theivery.

The TEMPLE which JESUS built is HIS BODY the CHURCH. THE BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

    LOVE your nieghor as yourself.

    Amen.

Whether your information is accurate is beside the point. The incidents of Jesus life story are not just parables related to "inclusiveness" but metaphors for the internal process of transcendence.

Eliminating the merchants from the temple (internal) refers to the ego's relationship with other egos - merchandising itself - 'doing' one thing to 'get' another. The true Self or Christ Self has to transcend this learned defensive/acquisitive behavior and belief system.

The best sermon on this issue was written by Meister Eckhart.
