Why does Medicare pay for scooters and not for medicine?

I think it's ludicrous that medicare will pay for a convenience, but not for life-saving drugs. The new Rx add-on is a joke created by the pharmaceutical industry.

Update:

Okay, I stand corrected: scooters are not a convenience. But is it more important to get around or to stay alive?

It's just one of the many flaws in our society,

which isn't likely to change any time soon --

and certainly not before we pull out of Iraq,

which is costing the government billions per

    year.

    Unfortunately, Medicare--just like the FDA,

the government agency that must approve any

    and all pharmaceutical drugs--is severely

    underfunded.

George W. Bush can easily enough say he's

sympathetic to the problem of health care --

but actually doing something to fix the problem

is quite a different matter. His #1 priority is

"accomplishing our mission" in Iraq & Afgahnistan.

I love what former TX governor Anne Richards

said about Bush when he first ran for the Oval

Office: "Poor George. He can't help it. He was

born with a silver foot in his mouth!"

What's rediculous is that medicare and other insurance companies will pay for the scooters, the knee replacement surgery, the diabetes testing equiptment, the dialysis...

when they could've paid for a gym membership and some nutrition classes and saved millions.

Wow, never thought about that. Sad thing is... It's probably less expensive for them to throw a scooter at them than to prolong their lives and give the medications they need. :(

have you even known anyone in a wheelchair?? it's not a convenience it's a necessity! that's why Medicare pays for it! Fork up the extra bucks and get part d or go to walmart and get generic and only pay $5.00 each!! there are other programs available then medicare.. seriously, call walmart and ask about the $5.00 generic drug program..

they probably find it cheaper to give everyone scooters than to give medicine because ull have to keep refilling their stock of drugs to keep em healthy. scooters just a one time fee lol pathetic really.

THE SCOOTER IS NOT A CONVENIENCE IT'S A NECESSITY FOR ALLOT OF PEOPLE. IF YOU HAD PROBLEMS WITH YOUR LEGS OR FEET YOU WOULDN'T CALL IT A CONVENIENCE.

Just like our government , Medicare is run by large wealthy corporations. Your health and welfare are not one of their concerns.
