What about the Stupid Muslim Woman wearing her Burkha in court?
and listening to an ipod instead of the procedings? Just shows how much "Respect" they give in return for being allowed to dress & behave as they please. No wonder the country is going to the dogs. These people need to learn about civic duty, never mind demanding to teach wearing a veil etc.
I forgot to add that she was on the Jury and the court was in session !

I hate being 'against people' but when a person comes to the UK he/she expects, rightly, to be protected by the law of the UK.
How can she then treat the functioning of the law with such dis-respect?
The answer can only be, and as far we can talk only in the case of this individual, that she has no respect, for whatever reason.
If it had been a 'westerner' in the jury he/she would have been sent to prison and rightly so. What will happen to this young woman remains to be seen, but I would argue that hiding her ipod under a religious garb which is already the subject of much controversy seems to make matter worse.
And, a point often made in reply to questions like this, we as Westerners are subject to many controls and sometimes humiliations if we do not behave according to the religious customs of many Muslim countries. How can Muslims in the U.K. continue to take the P**S and not expect some kind of unpleasant backlash, not from the BNP but from ordinary people who really just want to get on with their lives?

Hello! Love Exists? Are you out there! She was on the JURY!!! She's supposed to be listening to TESTIMONY! It's hard enough to get a fair trial without having the people judging you not even paying attention to what is going on! Haven't you ever heard the expression-"The devil's in the details"? She'd just as soon miss the trial, let alone the facts!
As for how she was dressed, well, I do agree that it's still a free country and she can dress as she chooses.

I must confess I don't know very much about Muslim's or the reasons that they wear the Burkha. I do no however that whom ever you are, religion, race, etc... you must show respect to the country for which you are visiting or have chosen to live in. If I went on holiday I would have to do the same. But it sounds like she lives here and may have grown up here, if she was on the jury, so she should of known better.

I know, it just shows such total disrespect for the country that she now calls home. Regardless of the crime that was on trial, she should have been giving her full attention to the proceedings - there is no excuse for that kind of behaviour. If she didn't want to be part of the jury then i'm sure she could have made some kind of excuse.

You see why this country is going to the dogs, not because of one stupid women (who deserves punishment like anybody else), but because people would rather talk racist, islamophobic rubbish rather than ask questions such as why has the cash for honours probe has not got to court and what can be done to unite communities rather than divide them?
As for all of you that think that westerners behave such morally and respectfully in Muslim countries, cobbs waddle, go and travel outside your great' country and you will see how respectful some, note the some' westerners are abroad.
Get over it there is no more Anglo Saxon white Protestant country its just a country where people have to live together or instead go buy your own island .

Hello,
I believe it was a hijab. People are getting the two mixed up on these lists. A burka is the covering that looks more like a anti mosquito tent.
Jury duty is quite a sacred responsibility in western society. Justice will take its course and legal experts predict she'll get a few months of jail time.
It is the ipod that concerns me; not the hijab. Ipods should be banned in a lot of places; especially pedestrians on busy streets, drivers, bicyclists who cannot here what goes on around them and especially in the courts.

"These people?" "Allowed?"
People dress how they like. We don't "allow" them to dress that way. I am far more worried about the hooded chavs mugging old ladies outside the Post Office on pension day. You get disrespectful British people. Should we teach them about civic duty too?

maybe she already knew how corrupt the judicial system is and had better ways to spend her time
what was she listening to by the way snow white and the seven dwarfs.. well done her
she doesn't need your permission to dress in the way she chooses
the length you lot will go to to generate negativity beggars belief
you get off on it right
sad
respect is something that is earned its not a god given right that you force on people
people aren't fools there are countless examples on both sides of the pond of corruption

i reckon you prefer women going to court wear bikinis...ah, awfully stupid of me!
i've been to courts regularly, i see nothing wrong as long as they don't talk unnecessary in loud voice, cellphone ringers not distractive, don't do scandalous behavior, don't dressed not allowed by court, and just listen to an ipod when not being addressed to by the court. She can even cross her legs, wiggle, tap the floor soundlessly, etc as long as she not doing anything unlawful and anything considered inappropriate in court.
oh! she's in the jury. Was it music or english translation she is hearing?

And isn't it amazing that she is such a good muslim she wears a Burkha but such a bad one that she is listening to music which I understood to be forbidden in Islam.
