What's so addictive about the Simpsons?

Very quick humor--often vague references to political and social issues--exaggerated misuse of the English lanuage--very smartly written--by smart I mean it was sharp and bting--all of the characters are against our better judgement---blatantly against the norms of our society. The whole show is full of characters who play well off of each other--the humor is funny when the dialogue is coming from the right players. The voices are silly, the humor is silly, the situations are silly--just roaringly funny. A real departure for us from our crummy days in real life. We can't be underachievers like Bart, we can't be dismissive and blame everything on everyone else like Homer, We can't be deceptive and slick like Crusty, but we can dream about how funny it would be to just get away with it for a day or two. The actual writers are an excellent team of brilliant people.

I've always felt that the strength of the show is that the writers are willing to sacrifice the plot and story for a good joke.

Unlike situation comedies - the storyline is secondary, following the joke (and hopefully skewering pop culture) is what The Simpsons does best!

Well its funny is an obvious starting point. People can relate to the characters in their day-to-day lives, it lambasts American culture and society, and it remains timeless in its execution - I actually think its brilliant they never updated the title sequence as they improved the quality of art and animation.

The donuts, and all the prank calls Bart makes to the pub under names like "Al Caholic" and "Ivanna Tinkle". So so so funny!

we all know a homer and marge, and bart, and maggie and liza, I have seen each episode at least once before but I still re watch them again,

I guess its the way everybody can laugh at it, and compare with it.

And who can forget Spiderpig?

They use the Devil's interval in the theme tune!!!

Because there's so much crap on the T.V nowadays its the only decent thing you can watch!

It's just so absurdly silly that you just have to laugh at it.

Nolt. It's good but not addictive.
