If we are in Iraq to fight the war on terror, why not attack Saudi Arabia instead?

The latest estimate is that 1 out of 3 insurgents in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia. Many of the 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia (none were from Iraq).

Now, I know why we're not attacking them (oil and money). But doesn't the fact that Bush embraces the king of Saudi Arabia given the above info just prove the hypocrisy of his "war on terror"?

Update:

For the record, I don't agree with attacking Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Iraq. Every time Bush discusses Iraq, however, he constantly mentions terrorism as if the civil insurgency is almost irrelevant. My point is just that if it's all about terrorism, it seems hypocritical to ignore a country that has the most responsibility.

This is a very good question. Lets look at some facts. The accused perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks were all from Saudi Arabia. Saudi is an Islamic Religious monarchy that cites the Quaran as it's constitution. Its laws are based on the Quaran. Saudi Arabia still uses flogging and beheading as punishments and there are many people detained and tortured as political and conscience prisoners.

Iraq is a secular Arab state and under Saddam, it has a secular constitution and laws. Under Saddam, political oppression. violence against civilians and persecution of the Kurds was rife.

But, no Iraqi had ever been accused of a terrorist act before the US led invasion. No links between Iraq and any terrorist organisation were found before the US led invasion. No Iraqi took part in the 9/11 attack. There were no terrorist training camps in Iraq before the US led invasion.

So.I don't know why we are in Iraq and not in Saudi Arabia except that the US (and British) government has too many friends in the Saudi government and too many fingers in Saudi pies.

And when it comes to money, all principles get thrown straight out the window and hypocracy, double standards and double dealing as well as deception and corruption reign supreme!

Saudi has America by the short hairs because of their oil reserves and money. If we attacked the "real" trouble makers in the middle east....Saudi Arabia....America would fall into the worst depression we have every seen. Oil is the basis of not only our autos but also thousands of products all of which use oil. We would be thrust back into the dark ages and this is what Saudi Arabia has over us. These Arab bastards are substituting many other Arab countries....building Mosques, buying books, teaching, murder to kids....spreading their religion of death around the world. Remember, they are the hub of the Islamic religion.

Well Bush Sr is still on Saudi payroll and Bush Jr wishes to join in Daddy's footsteps when he is done being the Decider.

As for attacking Iran, is stupid since 50% of insurgents that we are fighting in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia. Iran only accounts for 10-15%.

Now this is really contrary to Conservative beliefs but it is important in life to use common sense.

15 hijackers on 9/11 came from Saudi Arabia. 0 from Iraq.

Half of the terrorists being held in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia.

Bin laden is from Saudi Arabia.

Sounds like a lovely fun loving pro-America place. Why would we want to bomb there? (Sarcasm)

What the proponents of the Iraq invasion do not realize (or care about, perhaps) is that peace and justice are inextricably linked. While terrorist acts are evil and their perpetrators deserve severe consequences, they are ultimately desperate acts of revenge against the imperialism, hubris, avarice, abuse, and murder perpetrated by the US government for many years. I strongly believe the United States has the right to pursue its attackers to the ends of the Earth to render justice and to defend its people, but that is not what the Bush administration is doing. The Neocons simply have simply used terrorist attacks as a rationale to unleash the Bush Doctrine. By invading and occupying a sovereign nation, America's leaders have wasted many lives and vast resources, while fueling antipathy toward the US and creating new terrorists. If the Neocons truly had noble intentions, they would be employing far fewer American military forces in a much more efficient way by hunting down and rooting out the true perpetrators of terrorism, and they would be revising US foreign policy to root out imperialism, economic aggression, and flagrant disregard for international law. Instead, the Neocons chose to brutalize a nation and thumb their collective noses at the world.

America needs to drop its obsession with being number one. It is time for the United States to become a member of the world community rather than a murderous bully. Obscene over-consumption has become a hallmark of the United States. While not all Americans fall prey to Madison Avenue's propaganda glamorizing gluttony, many do. People of other industrialized nations enjoy a respectable standard of living without consuming a quarter of the world's resources (while representing only 5% of the world's population). Other nations face reprisals and penalties for the violation of international law. Without regard for justice, the United States wields international law like a club or blatantly defies it, depending on what best suits American interests at the time. Ongoing support of repressive regimes (like Saudi Arabia's) to further America's economic interests, unflinching support of its proxy military enforcer in the Middle East (Israel), disregard for the plight of the Palestinians, and hypocrisy over who gets to join the "nuclear club" are but a few more examples of how America's government engenders more abhorrence of America and invites continued terrorism.
