Hello All! I was wondering wha is the best way to get accepted in an MFA acting program with no BA in theatre

I have a BA in English, so I was in the same boat as you! Here is what I recommend:

1. Check the potential programs to see if a BA in theatre is required. Some schools staunchly require a BA in theatre, so to get into those you must go back to school and get a BA. Be aware, however, that a good number of MFA programs just require a BA. Take acting classes and put those on your resume if you didn't take any classes during college.

2. If it's not required, a video audition can't hurt.

3. Some schools require in-person auditions while other accept video auditions. Always do your best to appear in person.

4. Letters of recommendation make a huge impact. Get the most prominent teachers you can to write letters for you. If a great teacher recommends you, it can stack the odds in your favor.

5. When I was accepted into theatre grad school, one of the caveats to my acceptance is that I had to take 3 undergrad theatre credits. It wasn't bad at all, but be prepared if you have to take an undergrad course or two.

Getting into a MFA program is tough, whether you have the "correct" BA or not. It's not impossible, though. I'm living proof of that.

Ok, but are you sure you want an MFA? Only Yale Drama School's MFA has any punch in the professional world. Why dont you just start getting ready for your career and go for it without wasting you time in colleges? You are far behind now. Best bet - go back to school and get a BA in theatre.

Second best bet, get as much experience as you can, study with professional teachers, take as many audition workshops and classes as you can.

Experience is key.

Take outside acting classes, learn a bunch, and put them on your resume. They can be expensive but if you really hunt you can find some for a reasonable price and totally worth it! Good luck!
