For advanced Computer users (physical computer components)?

Well you are in a bit of a corner my friend. I am just going to assume that RAM is DDR, since DDR2 3200 is extremely rare. That means you have to use socket 939, because socket AM2 is DDR2 only. Socket 939 is outdated however, they are not making new processors for it, so its probably not a good idea investing money into it. The only logically reason I could see for upgrading is that your current one doesn't have PCI Express, and you want a new one that does. First thing you need to know is the type of ram you have. Is it SDRAM or DDR or DDR2 ? Google "What type of ram do I have" and take a look at that web page.

There is a physical difference between those three ram types the guide holes are different.

Once you find out what type of ram you have look for a motherboard that will support it.

Ebay is a good place to start.

if you go to tigerdirect.com you can get great buys on motherboards and all computer parts. However, it would be best to buy it as a package with the microprossor chip because sometimes you might buy a motherboard than the chip and it won't be comaptiable. Last time I was at tiger direct I saw a bundle pacakge for $200

problem is your trying to invest into dead technology, its very hard to find decent 939 or 478 components anymore unless your looking for the lower end ones.

any chance to salvage that memory? offer to sell it to your work? friends? ect. You can pick up a rather nice ddr2 kit for under 100 bux CAD. Try crucial ballistic X tracer (4-4-4-12) 2gb kit.

Asrock as they are solid reliable and cheap about $40 in the USA. Many wholesalers who carry this brand will have the older socket form factors still around
