Can I ask my wedding DJ to play music for the ceremony as well?
I'm having an outdoor wedding with the reception and ceremony all taking place at the same location. Can I ask the DJ to play the ceremony music as well? I don't have it in my budget to hire musicians for the ceremony, but I don't want to do it without any music at all.

That's what we did. The ceremony will be very short and the wedding party very small (no moms to be walked up and seated, just a maid of honor), so he's playing just one or two songs as the guests gather (they will all arive at the same time on a tram), a processional and a recessional. There is no need for music during the ceremony as it is only an exchange of vows--no readings, unity candle or other rituals. He agreed to do the ceremony at no extra charge since there is so little music in it. It won't hurt to ask yours, too!

Most mobile disc jockeys will be more than happy to provide the music for your ceremony and reception both. Here are some things you need to consider that will generally effect pricing. If your ceremony and reception are at the same facility and resonablly close together there will usually be little to no extra cost depending on which DJ you select. If your event is in two seperate locations the DJ will have to either tear down, move and set up a portion of his equipment after the ceremony or use another set of equipment. Alot of times that is where your extra cost comes from. First and foremost talk with your DJ. As a rule if a person gets to know you they will give you a break. This isnt always the case but it doesnt hurt. Also disc jockeys go to alot of receptions so they see alot of different things, get ideas and talk to other vendors. Use that to your advantage. I hope you have a great wedding and a wonderful life together!

At my daughters outdoor wedding/reception, we supplied the DJ with a premade CD of the wedding ceremony music. The CD had the prelude music, then the music that the wedding party walked into, the brides walk, candle ceremony music, and processional....then back to music like the prelude (a nice soft background type music). We gave the CD to the DJ a couple of weeks before the wedding so he could get familiar with the music and the timing. It worked out great!

Of course you can! But, why don't you get a stereo and make a mixed CD of songs that you like to play while guests are arriving. Have someone man the stereo so that when you're about to walk out, he/she can put on the song that you've chosen to walk to. My friend did this and it saved a LOT of money instead of having the reception DJ come to the ceremony. They'll do pretty much the exact same thing but it will cost a lot of money!

Yesssss, first off ask the DJ to make sure its cool because some DJ's will only do reception only they put it in the contract so make sure you read it if there is one. Luckily for me, mine does ceremony and reception music. I already have my ceremony music picked out for when I walk and when everyone else walks. Of course but be sure to ask them.

I guess u can but make sure it isnt like rock or hard metal stuff have him pick some nice romantic music for the wedding part of the ceremony. i dont think u want to come down to billy idols white wedding song . but see if he has any love songs or what ever u want to walk down too and see if u have to pay extra for the dj to do it. good luck and god bless your new marriage.

I'm sure you can but the person you should be asking is the DJ. I know ours gave the option to play during the ceremony if we wanted him to.
