  • Is there a way to make an Alka Seltzer rocket without a film canister?

I want to do a program for kids and build Alka-Seltzer rockets. The traditional way is to use clear (Fuji-Film) film canisters, put water and some Alka Seltzer inside. As the pressure builds up, the film cannister blows apart and "launches" the film canister rocket.

No one uses real film anymore, though. Does anyone have suggestions to make a rocket with something other than a film cannister?

  • What kind of activities or workshops can I have to teach teen girls about politics?

I'm taking a group of teen girls to the state capital to learn about politics and advocacy. What kind of workshops can I hold to teach the girls about these topics? The goal is to show the girls how they can get involved and make a difference in the causes that are important to them. We want this to be something the girls can enjoy as well. Any input would be helpful!!!

  • Is pasta too casual for the wedding reception?

My fiance and I are on a tight budget. Instead of having a chicken or steak dinner, we were thinking of having a pasta bar. Basically, it's a buffet of pasta. Two types of pastas, three sauce options and lots of toppings (like mushrooms, artichokes, olives, ham pieces, etc). We'd also have salad, bread and probably a vegetable side item.

So my question is, does that seem cheap since it's not a meat entree? I've been to lots of weddings with lasagna, but I wanted to have something a little different. We also have a lot of diet restrictions to work with since we're having both Muslim and Kosher guests. What do you think? Any other inexpensive options?

  • Can I ask my wedding DJ to play music for the ceremony as well?

I'm having an outdoor wedding with the reception and ceremony all taking place at the same location. Can I ask the DJ to play the ceremony music as well? I don't have it in my budget to hire musicians for the ceremony, but I don't want to do it without any music at all.

  • Alternator question?

Okay, so yesterday after work, I tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. Sounded like it was pretty close to turning over, but it didn't make it. My fiance jumped it, and I headed home. As I was driving, my battery was actually dying on the road. The radio died (I didn't know I was supposed to turn it off!), the tachometer went bananas and then it wasn't GOING when I stepped on the gas. We took the battery to get it tested and it's fine (now fully re-charged as well). Anyway, we'll take the alternator out today and get it tested, but my Dad says it could be the solenoid. Any input? The alternator seems more like it to me. I read that if the solenoid is bad, it just clicks when you try to start it.

By the way, if it matters, the car is a 2001 Hyundai Accent.

  • What are the best DIY Wedding ideas?

I'm getting married in a little less than a year. My budget is tight but not non-existent. Does anyone have any good ideas and websites for DIY projects that might save a little cash?

    Thanks!

  • Gilmore Girls Memories?

So we're all sad that the show is ending, but it's had a great run. What is your favorite Gilmore Girls memory?

I have a TON! I just watched a re-run of Rory's first date with Dean when he comes over to movie night with the Gilmores. It was funny to see everyone looking so young. The whole gang has kind of become family to me.
